I feel like with so many of us vaccinated we can have 3 per lane

Please please please!
I have LOVED that during Covid swim teams have suddenly discovered they do not REALLY need a small army of volunteers and can make do with far fewer people. Can’t we keep this great shift?

Speaking as someone that does automation for MCSL, this change will double the workload for the computer operators, as both times will be entered and the software will average them. Not a big deal at an A meet but will be a huge pain at B meets. Just something to consider. Personally I like the 3 timer setup with the middle time being used.

Question for the automation volunteer: will pools honor records broken this summer or will they be considered suspect with an averaged time?

Crazy waste of time to have 3 people per lane just to avoid having the computer do the averages.

I suspect that would depend on the pool. It wouldn’t count for MCSL records, which I think requires 4 timers? Could be wrong on that.

MCSL records require 3 timers per the 2019 rule book. Extra timers are only needed if someone is trying to get a record as the lead off relay swimmer (because those timers wouldn’t stop their watches). I don’t know if there will be any adjustments for a two timer summer. And I would guess teams will be allowed to decide for themselves with regard to team and/or pool records.

And if we aren’t, don’t sign up to time?

It’s outdoors - I am personally ok with someone else not being vaccinated.
