Public should find a way to at least have practices. Its the only affordable program in the area and where the lower income kids swim who cannot afford a pool membership. They can skip meets but at least find a way to do practices. |

Anyone have any update on the Colonial Swim League (24-team league in No. Va.)? Their website has finally reappeared after being down for several weeks, but it has no news about the upcoming season.
Last summer they were pretty much "us-too" for whatever NVSL decided, so perhaps that will be the case again. |
NVSL is having a season, so if they follow NVSL they will be as well. We will be having dual in person meets, not sure about the division wide meets. |
I’ve heard unofficially that they do plan to have a season, but details are unknown. I believe they met this week. |
| Anyone else hearing about pools all having different guidance. Our pool says 100 people can be there but a friends pool says 40. It’s the same size area. Also how do swim meets happen with limits? |
The MoCO guideline is 50% capacity, a club is welcome to go lower. |
If it is like Fairfax County and VA, swim club rules and competition rules are not the same. For example, our pools can go to 75% capacity (with spacing), but swim meets are capped at 30% spectator capacity. Now, what "spectator capacity" is...I'm not sure about that. |
| So Governor Northam revised his Executive Order to allow up to 1,000 spectators at recreational sporting events, effective immediately. Has anyone seen an “or at a number not exceeding X% of capacity”? I’m curious to know how this will affect meets but all I’ve seen is the “up to 1000” part. |
Talking with our swim reps, it may vary meet by meet depending on the pools competing. There is some talk of dividing into two smaller B meets, maybe by age or boy/girl. Some pools may limit spectators based on their own capacity. They might use 2 timers per lane instead of 3. NVSL will set the guidance for A meets, but all the pools are talking to each other about how they will handle B meets. |
Depending on your pool area and property surrounding it, you can sit outside the fence and not count against the #s or wear a mask.
|
We have plans to do this for swim meets. We can fit many spectators outside our fencing and actually have a better viewing area outside the fence compared to on deck. |

“ They might use 2 timers per lane instead of 3”
Please please please! I have LOVED that during Covid swim teams have suddenly discovered they do not REALLY need a small army of volunteers and can make do with far fewer people. Can’t we keep this great shift?

Speaking as someone that does automation for MCSL, this change will double the workload for the computer operators, as both times will be entered and the software will average them. Not a big deal at an A meet but will be a huge pain at B meets. Just something to consider. Personally I like the 3 timer setup with the middle time being used. |

Agreed. It also creates more room for error. |
