I think they'll have some sort of season. It would be ridiculous if they were not able to do that.

We can't even get our special needs kids in self-contained classrooms back to school. Now way will the league happen. Many pools had time trials and swim team practice. That is what we're looking at again for the summer No organized meets.

Self-contained classrooms and summer swim have nothing in common. Year round swim as shown you can safely hold multi-team swim meets indoor so why wouldn’t you be able to do outdoor meets?

That's never stopped our government before.

+1. Maryland seems much more cautious than VA judging by how our year-round team has to go to VA to do any meets. Our MCSL team ran practices last summer and some time trials. I expect the same this year. The only option I see for dual meets would be virtual (each team swimming at their own pool and comparing times). I'm not sure all teams would even be able to do that. I don't see the big meets like relay carnival, coaches, and all-stars happening this summer,

Club teams have been running safe indoor meets for months. There is no good reason that they cannot run a safe outdoor meet. B meets may need to be limited in size, but the A meets can be run safely.

I don't disagree that it can be done, but one big difference is that club teams have automatic timing, which means one timer per lane as a back up is fine. Fitting three people in a seven foot wide lane is introducing close contact, and without three people, the times can't be official (at least for NVSL, not sure the other leagues). Does NVSL take the risk assuming people are getting vaccinated or change the rules so only one time is needed?

This is a consideration. It can be changed for the season.

Right now the goal is for the NVSL to have a summer season. Be patient. The Return to Competition Committee meets for the first time tomorrow. Be willing to think outside the box. I know some people automatically think about what it "normally" looks like, but there is a good chance changes will be made.

This committee did meet and the NVSL board is meeting tomorrow. The seeding meeting is in March this year instead of February. They're working on it.

Nothing new. Sorry.

Can’t imagine that the “normal” crowd size of a meet will be allowed in MoCo.

Outdoor soccer limited to 25 people on a field right now.

Someone from my pool is on the nvsl reopen committee. IMO - he is awesome & I think he will try to get us able to do whatever Northam allows.

NVSL needs to give direction to the pools and standardize something for all the teams. Crossing fingers.

what kind of direction and standardization do you think should happen? Pools did a lot of different things last summer depending on the comfort level of the board/ physical layout of the pool/ membership, etc. e.g. some pools put out furniture others did not. Some pools sectioned off the pool and made people stick to a section, others did not. Some pools made everybody vacate after a time period to engage in some hygiene theater, others did not.
Obviously there are rules the NVSL puts forth with regard to swim meets, how many timers to have, qualifications of the referee, etc. This is within their 'swim lane.' But it would be highly inappropriate for the NVSL to start dictating to pools further directions that go beyond Phase 3 guidance (or whatever Phase we are in this summer.)

Ah. I probably know him. It's the "Return to Competition Committee". Some people will take some convincing I'm sure. Flexibility and a willingness to think outside the box will be key.

I didn't read the PP that way. I took it as saying the NVSL should give direction in regards to swim teams and meets. I don't think the NVSL would ever consider directing swim clubs and their operations.

I can’t imagine letting teams mix at any kind of meet but I can see having practice time for different age groups within the team.

We did that last summer.

I think cases will be Low enough by June for there to be a normal swim season.

Teams could swim at their home pools and then the data from the two teams merged.

It would still be complicated with large teams of 200+ kids.
