One time Frost beats TPMS and all the W parents come glowing and singing.
Even Leicester won the BPL too.

But I understand. When you beat the big dog, you gotta glow

^^ the only truthful post in this thread

I think you're right. Frost had a good day but I doubt this will happen again or is even repeatable. In fact, let's follow up on this in a couple of months and see how it pans out. Most the nonsense posted here is by bitter parents whose kids weren't able to make the cut for TPMS so they delight in trash-talking and spreading debunked conspiracy theories.

You mean MCPS admitting high performers only based on peer cohort is a conspiracy theory?

Sure, Fost had a good day, but will likely be creamed by TPMS in the state competition next month. The bitter parents whose kids failed to make the cut at TPMS will gloss over this since it doesn't support their bogus narrative.

IMO, one could say the same about the somewhat mediocre students who are there now simply because of peer cohort. The wide range of abilities in a magnet program basically brings the average down.

Spot on! The new selection method actually favors the mediocre kids with pushy parents, hence, the “diverse abilities”.

I guess that their poor performance in math contests kind of confirms it. Sounds like the new selection process favors the mediocre kids who have been prepped, correct?

Someone on this thread of OB-SESSED with the current 7th grade class at TPMS. I suppose it is most likely to be someone whose 7th grader "obviously" would have been admitted under a previous system.

As a TPMS parent (8th and rising 6th), I actually agree that the 7th grade class is a little different than the others, but it was also the very first year of the new system. This year's 6th graders, also identified under the new system, seem more like the previous classes. I can't speak to the rising 6th graders except to say there seemed to be plenty of kids from all over the county at the information night.

Two? Wow. Prepping hard, huh?

Well, we are in-bounds, so we're the bottom feeders y'all are so afraid of. My kid might be knifing someone right now, unless he's busy smoking pot in the mandatory gender neutral bathroom.

Finally, here is a truly unprepped incoming magnet kid. Way to go! How about the older one in 8th grade now? He or she must have been prepped as he or she got in with the older selection system which one had to game.

Has to support the pp. Seriously, how much math you need to do your job? Why is Mathcounts such a big deal at DCUM? DD was accepted to both eastern and TP. She is good at lots of things but math definitely does not click with her. She chose TP. I am not worried. Didn’t Thomas Edison hate math too?

I'm not a "prepper" and not a TPMS parent (or Frost parent), but I can't believe you're throwing shade at math generally and the general usefulness of math. I'm in a non-math field, and we use math CONSTANTLY. It drives me absolutely batty the number of Americans that can't think about numbers in any sort of intelligent way and think that math is just for the mathematicians. I wish I was better at it, and think it's phenomenal that these kids want to spend their time thinking about numbers. Good for them! We should only encourage this, not crap all over it. Mathcounts is one of many great options to make math a fun and attractive extracurricular for many kids -- that's a good thing!

Nah. Math is useful only to a certain extent. I can’t believe that a routine job will frustrate anyone because of math. One of the greatest things about America is that we achieve greatness without lots of math grinds. Go figure.

Maybe the Frost kids can spend more time on something more creative than the boring Mathcounts.

Haha! We 'achieve greatness without lots of math grinds' because we import HB1s from India and Russia, pay them peanuts and make them develop our IT infrastructure. It's 'math grinds' they had to endure in schools in Delhi and Omsk that now allows you to spout off uneducated bullshit on Internet right now.
Go figure.

there aren't 18 kids at these schools that care about the math club yet there is 18 pages of parents taking weird amounts of pride and contentment on the issue. Speaks more about the parent culture there than anything else.

One of the greatest mathematicians is not only an American, but also a Marylander.

We have a lot US born mathematicians.

Exactly! Who would care so much about something as dull as math?

Are you saying that the magnet kids are not US-born or Americans? Oh, my! Talking about bigotry.

How stupid you are ! Can't you read ? I was responding to the post claiming US had to import mathematicians from India and Russia.

Did I mention any magnet kids ?

You are so stupid and I feel sorry for your kids if you have any !!!
