Good for you. I have no problem with prepping if someone wants to put in the effort. Dr li provides a service many parents want. What is distasteful about that?

You know what? Whatever I do is natural. Whatever you do is prepping and distasteful. I gave birth to my DD at home, no preparation whatsoever! She got in TP all by herself. I did not even know it until she called me asking for ride home from Silver Spring in the second marking period! Heck, I do not even know what a marking period is! Can you beat that!?

Even Leicester won the BPL too.

But I understand. When you beat the big dog, you gotta glow

^^ the only truthful post in this thread

I think you're right. Frost had a good day but I doubt this will happen again or is even repeatable. In fact, let's follow up on this in a couple of months and see how it pans out. Most the nonsense posted here is by bitter parents whose kids weren't able to make the cut for TPMS so they delight in trash-talking and spreading debunked conspiracy theories.

You mean MCPS admitting high performers only based on peer cohort is a conspiracy theory?

Sure, Fost had a good day, but will likely be creamed by TPMS in the state competition next month. The bitter parents whose kids failed to make the cut at TPMS will gloss over this since it doesn't support their bogus narrative.

I’m wondering where I fall on your judge-o-meter. My 13 year old wanted to apply for a magnet high school and asled me to order a Cogat prep book for her. I spent about 20 minutes trying to figure it put on amazon and about $20 for the book. I have no idea how long she spent with the book but I never saw her using (although truth be told, I don’t pay that much attention to what she’s doing). What say ye? Am I a normal person or no?

No doubt. I have no idea what mathcounts is, but it has to be an activity for super nerds and their nerdy parents.

Great job Robert Frost!!! Could not be more proud.

Parent of a graduate

You spelled Tacoma Park wrong, but cool story.

I take your sarcasm, but in my own opinion what you did was driven by your child and done by your child, so that’s great. Sorry I used the word “normal” but there was some craziness on this thread.

It is not normal. Normal people do not prep for anything. They live in a forest.

Someone on this thread of OB-SESSED with the current 7th grade class at TPMS. I suppose it is most likely to be someone whose 7th grader "obviously" would have been admitted under a previous system.

As a TPMS parent (8th and rising 6th), I actually agree that the 7th grade class is a little different than the others, but it was also the very first year of the new system. This year's 6th graders, also identified under the new system, seem more like the previous classes. I can't speak to the rising 6th graders except to say there seemed to be plenty of kids from all over the county at the information night.

So which one is it? Frost beats Takoma because Takoma kids were prepped and couldn’t perform well? Or they are truly gifted, according to MCPS, and simply don’t care about Mathcounts? You cannot have it both ways.

In one insignificant contest Frost actually placed higher. Forst is doing a great job. As one poster pointed out they have something liek 3 highly rated students whereas Takoma has closer to 30. Takoma will also likely place higher in the state content next month since this was mostly just an off day. The nonsense about admissions is just the rantings of disgruntled parents who are still angry they can't game the admission system like the good old days before universal screening.

All the magnet kids got in because they have been heavily prepped. My kids are not good at math, nor bothered to apply to any magnet school. I am sure they will have a happier life. Let the magnet kids have the most stressful jobs. Thank you for prepping your kids and make life easier for our normal kids.

Just FYI in the old system people applied these days everyone is considered. That is why it's so much more competitive these days and a lot of parents are angry it's no longer their min-private school.

Two? Wow. Prepping hard, huh?
