Congratulations to Robert Frost Mathcounts team! |
That’s great! Robert Frost is a great MS |
Nice cohort! |
Mathcounts Potomac chapter results:
Robert Frost Tokoma Park Roberto Clemente Cabin John Herbert Hoover Tilden Salute to the kids for their superb achievements without the benefits of a magnet program! |
You are all strangely overinvested in the results of a middle school after-school activity. |
Except that for TPMS and RC it is not an after school activity. |
LOL
One time Frost beats TPMS and all the W parents come glowing and singing. Even Leicester won the BPL too. But I understand. When you beat the big dog, you gotta glow |
1. I'm one of the PPs... and I don't live in a W cluster, nor did my DC bother applying to TPMS (too far), but DC is in RMIB now (closer to us) 2. We shall see in the following years whether this pattern holds. I'm thinking it will due to the peer cohort criteria. It doesn't take a math genius to figure out why they didn't win it when even MCPS stated that they were admitting students with the highest scores only within the home schools and not the entire county. That's leaving a ton of high performers in the home schools who probably scored higher on the tests than some of the kids who were admitted. |
TPMS team this year has only 8th and 6th graders. |
My kid was in a regional CES in 5th grade and knew many kids who turned down a Magnet MS spot last year. Lots of reason - commute, cohort criteria, not happy with the magnet MS. So there are definitely kids at those home schools who scored higher than the kids at TPMS and at Eastern. |
Funny to see this here. My kid was there competing today and I didn't think it would make DCUM!
And parents, please get your daughters out there in the mix! Congratulations to all who competed! |
I have an 8th grader at TPMS magnet and I'm sad to hear this evidence that it might be true that TPMS magnet is going downhill bc of the new standards which started for current 7th graders and beyond. Everyone warned that this could happen and here you go... |
True. Frost was placed first in the two MathLeague contests too. Overall current TPMS 7th graders’ performance in math contests has been quite disappointing despite the extra help they have received at school. |
^^ the only truthful post in this thread |
I think you're right. Frost had a good day but I doubt this will happen again or is even repeatable. In fact, let's follow up on this in a couple of months and see how it pans out. Most the nonsense posted here is by bitter parents whose kids weren't able to make the cut for TPMS so they delight in trash-talking and spreading debunked conspiracy theories. |
