Robert Frost beats Takoma Park in Mathcounts

TPMS got over 26 kids in honor roll and 10 kids in distinguish honor roll (6, 7, 8 graders)

Robert Frost has 1 in honor roll and 3 in distinguish honor roll. All of the them are 7th graders. These kids would have made TPMS if it were not cohort

Wait to see AMC10 result coming out.

So much for all their crowing... LOL

And then you root around in the muck to find and respond to a post from 02/09/2020????????

That was 1004 days ago.

More than one thousand days ago

Why not just start a new thread?

Really, February 2020 was like 1000 years ago.

Also, since this thread was started pre-Covid, the TPMS cohort being lamented is one of the ones admitted under universal review, with CogAT scores. The process that is now being held up as So Superior To What We Have Now.

The more things change…

Only one student from Takoma Park advanced to MATHCOUNTS National in the last two years.

The glory days of TPMS are long gone.

Your evidence says the opposite of what you think it does.
Only 8 students advanced to Nationals from any school in Maryland in the last two years.
Having one of 8 is impressive.

And parents, please get your daughters out there in the mix!
Congratulations to all who competed!

Maybe tell that to all the teachers who sublely don't think girls can do math. Are your boys welcoming? Probably not. Not sure what you expect parents of girls to do when the odds are stacked against us.

Not sure why Frost parents are resurrecting this old gem.

I guess the policy of advancing able kids to Algebra in 6th used by the wealthy Potomac schools like Frost is working.

All I knew was the highest-ranking MD student on last year's Mathcounts was from TPMS, as usual.

Parents: You all need to chill. Unless your kid is in the Mathcounts team, there is no benefit to you. In addition, attending a school with a Mathcounts winning team also has no benefit to you unless your child is on that team. You all are trying too hard to prove your school is better than the other.

Looks like someone is responding to posts from MONTHS AND MONTHS AND MONTHS ago? How do you even find them???? And in all seriousness, if your kid was in middle-school back in 2019/2020 aren't they in high school now? How are you still stuck on something from so many grade levels ago?

They resurrected this chestnut to ask about the median MAP score at TPMS in recent years. To my knowledge, MCPS hasn't released that info, but given that this program has been a lottery of the top 15% since the pandemic started, it's a safe bet it's a few points lower. Nevertheless, as a TPMS parent, I can say that the program seems great, and the kids seem to be doing as well as ever. This suggests the county would do well to expand these offerings to even more kids, not restrict them.
