Don't buy in MoCo until the school redistricting is setled?

I can enroll her Private, use a neighbors address within W school, apply for a magnet, heck move to VA. Or even rent in zone for awhile.

Big reason I live in a W zone is for my kids.

No you can't use neighbors address because this is illegal.
Yes you can apply for a magnet but that is like winning a 1M lottery.

Both of my kids were in the STEM magnets. For us, buying in-boundaryTPMS this proved to be a better use of our resources.

Yes but this is legal. It is not like using neighbor's address. Buying within boundaries of TPMS raises a chance of getting into the magnet
many times over since the whole boundary competes with other kids for 25 spots while the rest of the county competes over 100.
That is a huge advantage. You have made a smart move.

They got rid of the 25 slots this year. Besides the 25 slots were always vs 100 slots for the out of bounds kids. The only reason the 25 could help is because there is smaller concentrations of high peer cohort kids in that part of the city

Do you have a link for that change?

I don't think they made any such a change.

What part of the county? Boundaries won’t be changed in Potomac

Hi all, forgive me for not reading 17 pages of the back and forths. Last several pages are littered with minutiae. What is the estimated date that the boundary assessment will be done by and when will the Board of Ed decide on formalizing the boundary changes? Trying to align this with buying a home in the next 1-2 years. TIA

The consultants' boundary analysis report is due this spring. But that will not include any boundary changes. After the report comes out, the board has to decide whether to begin any new boundary studies (which they typically announce in the fall). If they do, each study will have a specific scope and timeline. It is a slow-moving process.

There is only one study currently underway, and its recommended changes are to be announced in November 2020, to take effect in Fall 2021.

The only way that boundaries will not change in Potomac or Bethesda is if the all the BOE members except Smondriski get voted out and replaced with BOE members who support neighborhood schools. If this doesn't happen, then Churchill and Whitman will absolutely get changed.

The Churchill cluster is adjacent to RM and Rockville HS so Churchill could easily have areas rezoned. With the diversity priority, the areas chosen not the closest ones on the edge either so no pace is really safe.

+1 I can state pretty definitively that they did not make such a change, as I was at the TPMS magnet meeting last night and it was chockablock with neighborhood kids. So either neighborhood kids took 20 of the 100 slots organically, or there was no such change.

There are also planned, but not yet underway, boundary studies for DuFief/Rachel Carson and for the new ESs in Gaithersburg and Cabin Branch.
