Don't buy in MoCo until the school redistricting is setled?

No it won’t. Your DC is not going to be the only person moving to a new school. All of their peers from your well regarded school district will be moving as well, which will raise the GS scores of what was previously a subpar (by DCUM standards) school. If Einstein is a 5 and a bunch of UMC ESs get zoned to it, it will increase to a 6 or 7 because of that and it will cease being a subpar school by DCUM standards. People on here are making it out like people from 8 GS HSs are being rezoned to 1 GS schools when that’s not the case.

You're right. People should be happy about being moved to a school with a GS rating of 5.

Einstein is currently a 7.

It's a diverse school, but there are plenty of high-achieving kids there too. I wouldn't be so dismissive. It's actually a great school.

+1

It is a great school. I know many who have recently graduated and gone on to do great things.

Every time I start to think maybe this is a lovely, diverse place, you people start in again with your fear of poverty and your idiot racism. Most of your families have been in America for like five relative minutes. Maybe tone down your fear and class insecurity. A tad.

Does anyone know when the redistricting options will be released? Not OP, but in the same boat… I am less concerned about house value declining (though that certainly is an important concern) - main issue is wanting to be sure that kids stay in the same school as their friends if we move outside our immediate neighborhood.

In 2021 - 2022, 31.2% of Einstein students scored proficient in Math, and 64.3% scored proficient in Language Arts.

I agree, it is terrible how MCPS seems really bad at educating students of color, especially in schools where Black and Hispanic students are the majority.

Wrong, actually MCPS is amongst the best for educating black students. Black MCPS students tend to score higher on AP exams, for example.

It's not certain yet, but if Woodward's opening date stays as fall 2027, then the boundary options would likely be released sometime between fall 2025 and spring 2026, with the board voting about 6 months after that. The board's votes on potential boundary decisions happen in March and November each year, and boundaries for a new school have to be finalized at least 10 months before it opens.

Sorry, should have said at least 9 months before it opens. They vote in the November before the school opens the following August.

There are plenty of redistricting threads in the MCPS forum which is where this thread would be more appropriate at this point.
