Don't buy in MoCo until the school redistricting is setled?

The latest MCPS delay as of yesterday has the Woodward redistricting being "settled" in March of 2026, to start taking effect in fall 2027.

In 2014, MCPS recommended a feasibility study to revitalize Dufief Elementary to accommodate overcrowding at RCES.

In 2019, Dufief Elementary was scheduled to have renovations completed by 2022.

The project's current project status, as of 2023, is that it is approved for a feasibility study. "Once the feasibility study is complete, a recommendation regarding scope, timeline and funding will be considered in a future CIP."

I have little confidence in the current administration's ability to do anything except for talk about completing projects.

I think that delay was more about RCES no longer being overcrowded.

No it won’t. Your DC is not going to be the only person moving to a new school. All of their peers from your well regarded school district will be moving as well, which will raise the GS scores of what was previously a subpar (by DCUM standards) school. If Einstein is a 5 and a bunch of UMC ESs get zoned to it, it will increase to a 6 or 7 because of that and it will cease being a subpar school by DCUM standards. People on here are making it out like people from 8 GS HSs are being rezoned to 1 GS schools when that’s not the case.

You're right. People should be happy about being moved to a school with a GS rating of 5.

In 2021 - 2022, 31.2% of Einstein students scored proficient in Math, and 64.3% scored proficient in Language Arts.

I agree, it is terrible how MCPS seems really bad at educating students of color, especially in schools where Black and Hispanic students are the majority.

THIS is the latest information released by MCPS as of November 2023

Decisions on redistricting won't be made until March, 2026, AT THE EARLIEST.

Students won't begin attending Woodward until Fall, 2027, AT THE EARLIEST.

You should anticipate delays to those dates, as with MCPS in the past, they've never once stayed on schedule.

There is nothing new as far as dates to announce.

Won't mcps combine Crown with Woodward and do an utterly massive reset of boundaries?

In theory they could do that, but if Crown gets further delayed and doesn't open the same year as Woodward then it's not so likely.

Are there areas of Bethesda that are more likely to emerge unscathed? We would be fine with Whitman or BCC but wouldn't want to buy an expensive home only to have our kids riding a bus to some school that is farther away than that.

Should we just wait it out and buy only when the new boundaries are set and final?

I think this hardly matters and will have little impact.

The studies they did a few years ago showed some minor changes around the edges of some existing boundaries to address overcrowding mostly.

It's a diverse school, but there are plenty of high-achieving kids there too. I wouldn't be so dismissive. It's actually a great school.

This is crap. Black and Hispanics do not want to be educated. Why do other minorities thrive! Stop blaming and take responsibility for your own education. It’s out there, use it. Study, do your homework. Learn! Stop being proficient in drugs, alcohol and stealing.

BOOM! goes maga.

How is this MAGA?

MCPS is not perfect. It’s done a lot wrong and watered down our formerly top notch educational system.

But, it is still one of the top school systems in the country. There are AP classes, vo-tech programs, dual enrollment. There are kids taking college classes at Montgomery College for free and graduate with and AA and a HS diploma. You can go to college or learn a trade. You can learn construction, be an auto mechanic, HVAC, plumbing. There are so many programs that can help.

There are plenty of kids in lower rated schools who graduate and are successful. Why are the black and Hispanics not taking advantage of these program and make something of themselves? Why are they not proficient in basic math and reading. The school system can only lead you to the water. They cannot make you drink it.

Why aren’t black and Hispanic kids taking advantage of these programs? Instead they are doing drugs, bring guns to school. Why?

Kids need to grow up and prepare for their future. This has nothing to do with MAGA!
