What happened to..."if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." Don't read the thread if you find it absurd. These people are venting and discussing the things that are going on in their lives at the moment. They aren't saying that they don't actually have real problems or that these things supercede all else in the world. Live and let live a little...I think America is actually just sick of other people judging everyone else and wanting them to think like they do. Just stay off the site if you can't stand it. But why do these posters have to not post because you don't want to read it? This forum is just in place of the water cooler, kitchen, corner, front porch, parking lot at school (inject other spot where women would convene to talk) and now done online...lighten up a bit.
So - having moved here from New England, not expecting this ridiculous school nonsense, I agree with both. Sixteen pages of this is excessive. But so is the process of applying to area schools. If I had an inkling my 13 year old was going to be forced to go through what he did this past fall to get be accepted where he wanted, and what area tuition costs, I never would have relocated. It's ridiculous. So let the moms and dads have an inch of space proclaiming how excited or disappointed they are after all they went through, and all they have to pay!
On the other hand, now that I am well versed in the bizzaro world that is DC private schools, I feel the need to share a big CALM THE HELL DOWN. Schools that are popular here, with the exception of a few, aren't ranked anywhere (except here) and the vast majority of people have never heard of them. DC isn't the center of the academic world. Newsflash - we moved to MoCo like idiots upon hearing the schools were amazing. Please. I might send my dog, but I doubt it.
With respect to the privates you're all going on about - Most of the schools here are average given the cost. So if your son needs to go to St. Johns instead of Potomac or your daughter is sad about not getting into NCS but accepted to Beauvoir, this is what you need to do: Picture the earth. zoom way out.... IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER. Some people can't afford anything. Be grateful!
