You think Holton WL your daughter because they knew you would accept a big 3 school? okay....

Yes Admissions Directors talk and Holton wants to be first choice. If they realized they are not, ahold on is the type of school that would reject the, before they reject you.

This and also that the rising 9th grade at Holton is HUGE. They have 86 girls currently, which is a lot larger than most of the high school classes. They didn't expect so many to accept their offer of admission in 7th two years ago, I'm guessing, so now they need to right-size the class and didn't take a lot of kids. The school has a limit on the overall number of girls they can have in the building (fire codes) and the current senior class is very small so once they're gone there isn't another small class to offset this.

Very helpful - thank you. Am i correct in understanding that they were planning on a class size of 90?

This.

Aren't all three classes between 2019 and 2021 really big?

I don't think there's going to be a ton of movement in 2020, either. Some, but not a lot.

Jedi Academy rejected finally. They didn't email us but used the force to convey their decision. We are fine though we got into two of the big three--starfleet academy and Hogwarts. Wait listed at Professor Xavier's school for the Gifted. Was told a lot of mutants applied this year.

What happened to..."if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." Don't read the thread if you find it absurd. These people are venting and discussing the things that are going on in their lives at the moment. They aren't saying that they don't actually have real problems or that these things supercede all else in the world. Live and let live a little...I think America is actually just sick of other people judging everyone else and wanting them to think like they do. Just stay off the site if you can't stand it. But why do these posters have to not post because you don't want to read it? This forum is just in place of the water cooler, kitchen, corner, front porch, parking lot at school (inject other spot where women would convene to talk) and now done online...lighten up a bit.

So - having moved here from New England, not expecting this ridiculous school nonsense, I agree with both. Sixteen pages of this is excessive. But so is the process of applying to area schools. If I had an inkling my 13 year old was going to be forced to go through what he did this past fall to get be accepted where he wanted, and what area tuition costs, I never would have relocated. It's ridiculous. So let the moms and dads have an inch of space proclaiming how excited or disappointed they are after all they went through, and all they have to pay!

On the other hand, now that I am well versed in the bizzaro world that is DC private schools, I feel the need to share a big CALM THE HELL DOWN. Schools that are popular here, with the exception of a few, aren't ranked anywhere (except here) and the vast majority of people have never heard of them. DC isn't the center of the academic world. Newsflash - we moved to MoCo like idiots upon hearing the schools were amazing. Please. I might send my dog, but I doubt it.
With respect to the privates you're all going on about - Most of the schools here are average given the cost. So if your son needs to go to St. Johns instead of Potomac or your daughter is sad about not getting into NCS but accepted to Beauvoir, this is what you need to do: Picture the earth. zoom way out.... IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER. Some people can't afford anything. Be grateful!

It doesn't really matter...and yet it does. Or you would keep your kid in Mo. Co. Public, right? It's kinda like being in a sorority in college...nobody cares which one your in when you go home for the summer or visit a school without them (and especially once you graduate). But it sure is good to be in the best one while you're there. I think 99% of these folks are grateful, but they are like all of us. We want "the best" for our kids and despite not necessarily knowing what that is, we want to strive for it. That's all...it's pretty simple and pure. I don't think there's anything sinister and it's fairly common to get worked up over your kid whether you got rejected from Andover in "New England" or the football team in Topeka...it's all the same shit. And as women, we like to hash through it over and over and then you have 17 pages. Basic math 101 that I learned in my public and private education.

Some of us click on to this thread to gawp at what revolting, misguided snobs you all are. You manufacture your own, needless drama. You actually think you are superior people. Where's my popcorn.

We were waitlisted at the Jedi Academy. Putting down a deposit at Starfleet, but hoping the Jedi waitlist moves.

It's not so hard to believe "we're" superior when comments such as yours reveal a stunning lack of critical reading skills, insecurity disguised as reverse snobbery, and a misguided presumption that you know any or all of "our" motivations for sending our kids to private school.

Heard Darth Vader will kill to move the wait list so Luke and Leia get in. Damn that's two spots for the skywalkers. But they are legacies.

Yes at NCS and no at St. Albans. Our DD is so upset because she so wanted St. Albans.

Made absolutely no reference to your motivations. The two posts quoted were perfect examples of snobbery and needless bickering. Crying "your just jealous" is the lamest comeback. Put the sherry down and try again.

Not entirely surprising and we have other options, but this is the one we wanted and it would have saved us serious money over time.

I am sorry. Hopefully it works out.

Whew![/quote
(There is no way you'll come back and see this but) us too! glad to know there is one person from my "crazy parenting message board" whose kid is also in the class.

I'm familiar with the Holton class of 2020. Nice group of girls who seems to be a close.

You didn't have to make any explicit references--your entire post reeks of the smugness of thinking you know other people's concerns and situations when in fact you know nothing of the sort. Interesting that you ignored PP's other criticisms--hit a little too close to home perhaps?

Of course you're welcome to come and "ogle at the natives" here and wallow in you self-righteousness, just don't be surprised when your sarcastic offerings are met with understandable derision.
