I never turned to drugs as a form of self-medication. Does that make me better than a drug addict? No. But the bottom line is they went one way and I chose to go another with it.

NP here and I agree with the gist of your points about treating addiction as a complex issue, being sympathetic, etc. etc. However you seem to be making lots of conjectures here. Even if Lamar's life has been tough in some ways it might be that the guy was hooked on drugs and promiscuity for the pleasure of it, period. Addiction is not always about depression, inner demons and dark holes, you know. Sometimes people are just after a high, have thrill seeking/adventurous personalities, and may not give a shit about consequences. They keep pushing boundaries and may end like Lamar, or maybe nothing bad will ever come out of it. When you combine certain tendencies with trying to live an hedonistic and careless lifestyle, you somehow invite consequences to yourself.

Yep. I think there was A LOT of self indulgence going on in this situation. Some people party and have indiscriminate sex because it feels good and they can.

It's entirely fine for a person / family to do an active organ search drive. The niece of a dear friend was born with bad kidneys. She received a living donation when she was a baby (from an adult family member), but then her body began rejecting it when she was about 8 years old. The family then did an extensive "search" for another kidney. I actually ended up being a very good match (the best the doctors had seen for the child), but was unable to donate for other reasons. They did find an altruistic donor and it actually set off a "kidney transplant chain" benefiting about 5 people in need.

I wonder if this had to do more with retaining legal rights to make decisions for him. Not in a sneaky way but to keep his medical case simple for right now. Khloe has been making decisions for him as far as we know, but if the divorce went through then it might get complicated.
