Dear middle-aged women: capri pants do nothing for you.

I've never, ever understood their popularity or why people think they look good. Even models don't look good in them!

+1! Capri pants don't look good at any age.

2. if you don't care about fashion at all, then this is not the conversation for you. it's not the place to pique someone's interest in fashion - it's the place to talk about what looks good, once we've established a baseline interest in fashion.

3. i would guess that most of us here like to dress in a way that balances our desires to be comfortable, and be attractive. we each of us can decide which of those concerns is more or less important to us. but once we've established that these are the baseline concerns, i think what we are trying to do here is figure out if capris do or don't meet the attractiveness requirement. (we know, in other words, that they are comfortable - are they also attractive?)

4. so, again, if your reaction to this question is: i don't care about being attractive! then this isn't the conversation for you. if your reaction is: yes, i think they are attractive!, or no, they aren't! then this is the conversation for you - where you can debate those who are willing to engage in the central question but disagree with your aesthetic judgment.

i also hate when people say "why is this news?" in the comments section of an article.

You apparently don't care about capitalization, either.

I went to an event today and many men and women in their 40s and 50s were in attendance. Most of the men wore polo shirts tucked in under their pot bellies and shorts.

Nearly all the women wore capri pants. Capri pants do nothing for you. If you are short, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are fat, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are tall, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are thin, you don't look good in capri pants. No matter the body type or age, capri pants are not flattering.

I say this lovingly. Wear anything else- anything! Shorts (long shorts, if you want to; even short shorts look better than capris), a skirt, pants, anything but capri pants. They make everyone look stumpy and shapeless. No one looks good in them.

I for one am going to humbly take this advice and not wear them. I can't really tell how they look, I already had my doubts, and besides I love skirts.

I can't wait to get out my capris and annoy the shit out of the shallow losers who have posted about capri-hatred. Bwah-hah-hah-hah!

I think those who want to wear capri pants will find that the judgment of those that vehemently oppose capris will not impact lives of the wearer whatsoever.

Unless other people's judgment about your fashion sense impacts your life, where whatever you want to the dang park.

Capri pants look terrible on everyone except people who look good wearing anything. I am tall, thin and have long legs and I don't wear capri pants because they would look bad on me. Also, capri pants should not be confused with well tailored ankle pants.

OP, I do not see them in stores, so I don't know where you are shopping. Thrift shop? But why resurrect an old post? Unless you are trying to criticize someone specific... either ways, you are a very sad person.

Thanks to the PP who resurrected this thread. I am new to DCUM and would never have known about it otherwise. Way too funny!

Also, without this thread I would never have known that Tory Burch sandals are almost as cringe-inducing as capris.

Another fashion faux pas averted!

Ok, fashion police. I will give up my capris. NOT. Worry about your own wardrobe. Let other people be comfy in theirs.

If her sensibilities are offended by the majority of middle-aged women's choice in attire, then maybe she is the one who needs the attitude change, and not the rest of the world who needs the wardrobe change. Is it possible for us to get more superficial?

If you feel lovely or cute or sporty in the capris, please wear the capris.

I'm going to prance around town in my capris, relishing the breeze against my ankles, and gleefully wondering which uptight bitter women are silently seething over something that affects them not. one. bit.

I'm joining you

I checked with my little girl about the comfy navy capris I had taken to wearing before becoming aware of this topic.
I am rather short and afflicted with a bottom which is too big. She was visibly relieved to tell me the truth when I demanded she do so. She admitted how bad they look.

At least I never wore big ugly white sneakers with them; I stuck with the ballet flats.

For all you Capri lovers - try ankle pants - they are the new version of capris in this day and age.
