Bottom line Gonzaga’s program is not nearly as good as it once was 3 - 4 years ago.
It has declined steadily each passing year. The school admin if they are serious about getting the program back to the Oneill era, the head coach needs to be a full time role in the building. Whether it be in the athletic office, development, admissions or comms, or teaching, the next head coach needs to be on campus. |
Agree their program will continue to decline until something major happens such as new HC, full-time coach, serious recruiting $, etc. Not sure how they'll manage an on-campus coach though. GZ is SMALL, both in terms of faculty and real estate. How will they find the space or faculty position to bring somebody on full-time? If the HC is source of most of the problems (as posts suggest) the quickest, easiest, and cheapest path for any sort of improvement is to replace the HC...even if it is another part-time position. |
| General observation: I've seen many lacrosse HCs skewered on this site for any number of things. However, in those instances, you can find parents who both agree and disagree with the claims. It has been complete crickets when it comes to any parents supporting King though. Makes me think that comments about other coaches may be more hyperbolic from parents with axes to grind, but the grievances about King may be more universally agreed upon by those GZ parents. |
Or the alternative is that GZ parents don't care what SJC or GP parents (or their kids) post on an anoymous chat board to bother with responding because it is likely people with axes to grind. But, I'll play along... As for the team, it was relatively very young last year. Most of the offense returns, whether that is a good thing is certainly up for debate. One of their biggest issues was it had a bunch of the same type of kid i.e., hard driving/dodging players that ML likes (GZ has a ton of ML kids on the team) that generally have never seen a bad shot (and ML kids take lots of bad shots). They didn't have any kid with great vision to make great passes and didn't really have any type of interior threat that could finish in close off the pass, even if they did make that pass. I'd wager most of their goals were unassisted. There wasn't that much of a threat out of X so most of the offense consisted of sweeps from the left or right. The 2 dpole kids that are leaving had generally been passed off by younger players. As for King, every team/program has issues. The fact King isn't on campus is certainly one of theirs. |
| Gonzaga has 2 jobs open and they don't match the stereotype lax guy but for one in the DC area and he's not going to Gonzaga. I don't lacrosse rates as a sport where they are willing to create a job like they do for basketball and football. |

NHSLS tomorrow:
SJC: Montgomery Bell (TN), Loyola (MD), Louisville Trinity (KY) PVI: Hill Academy (CAN), Lambert (GA), Baylor School (TN) GPrep: Jupiter (FL), Deerfield (MA), Bishop Shanahan (PA) Bullis: Bishop Shanahan (PA), Jupiter (FL), Deerfield (MA) Gonzaga: Lovett (GA), Upper Arlington (OH), Haverford (PA) |
Can anybody provide analysis on which team will fare the best based on these matchups? |
| Deerfield will be a challenge for both Prep and Bullis |
SJC because they win the offseason, predictions, and the DCUM boards every year. |
| SJC had the easiest draw out of the local teams a team from Kentucky and Tennessee. Loyola Blakefield is good program but they aren’t spalding or Calvert hall or McDonogh. The Cadets will go 3-0 tomorrow |
| Bullis is going to be missing some boys, injuries, and travel. |
| Really hard to get much out of NHSLS some schools use it to get bench players looks others try new players some want to win it to raise credibility for recruiting. Wins and losses are not the only measure. Plus parents are paying so all need to play. Some teams may not have full rosters. This is a showcase nothing more. |

agree, too many parents, alums, and boosters take way too much emphasis on results from NHSLS!
its summer ball people, chill out. |
| Not NHSLS related, but GC Delaware pole is transferring back to public. |
I must have missed the posts where people are hysterical about NHSLS. Thank you for your service in policing the 'chill' in this forum. |
