+1. The story goes that Justin Fairfax was so despondent over these “false allegations” that he “spiraled into mental illness” and then just had to kill the mother of his children. PUHLEESE. Murder suicide is not about mental illness, it’s about control. If I can’t have it, you can’t either.

Now that the 48 hours is up, let’s just say I had the ick on this guy and I feel vindicated. The way he made it absolutely clear that he felt entitled to the governorship after Northam’s blackface scandal came out as a matter of racial justice, all the while knowing he had multiple and more recent gender violence skeletons in his own closet, just struck me as so cynical and gross. This guy amplified Republican crap, lead the pile on, and went after an objectively decent man who was doing good for Virginians because it served his own ambitions.

Not to excuse what Northam did one bit, but the 80s in the South was a different time. The consensus on blackface being unequivocally bad is a relatively recent cultural development. He was caught flat footed and rightfully paid the price.

But we all knew rape and assault were bad in the 2000s.

Both men saw the end of their political careers, but Northam at least had a legacy of distinguished service to marginalized populations that he could fall back on. Fairfax apparently was a miserable, lying drunk whose own wife installed cameras in her home to protect herself.

It’s not like law firms shy away from aggressive lawyers with checkered pasts - people saw through this guy. All of his charm just hid the fact he was a narcissist who served no one it himself, and when people started to see that, he was cooked. Look at all the “friends” who wanted nothing to do with him after the scandal came out. Everyone suspected it was true.

All of this. He was a cowardly, rapey, murdering piece of sh*t. The mod of this site and other outlets are making up any and every excuse they can come up with because they too are tribal pieces of sh*t that will protect POC and Dems at all cost, even if that includes throwing women to their death.

+1 it’s gross.

+1

It is gross, but it’s 100% aligned with the current anti-woman bent of the Democrats. Just par for the course at this point.

Say the thugs who repeatedly bend over for a man who raped children and bragged about molesting beauty queens. Hit me again with your maternal deaths. Your bogus Bible literalism.

There’s zero credible evidence Trump raped children. There are multiple accusations that Trump walked through a dressing room at a beauty pageant.

I don’t even know what the line about maternal deaths means, it’s so inappropriate to bring Trump up when an innocent woman has been murdered and her children are now without their mother. Can you discuss any topic without bringing up Trump? I seriously doubt some of you can. It’s disturbing, please try to focus and please stop bringing your personal obsession with Trump into every topic.

Because I’d think people who bow down before Epstein’s bestie like beta simps wouldn’t be calling Democrats (who have largely come out against Fairfax, btw) of being anti-woman, while putting in Stone Age superstition into law that actually kills women.

I voted for Harris and am very anti-Trump and I can easily see how anti-woman the Democrats are.

I’m a Democrat. And nobody said the Republicans were any better. You are just grasping for that immediately because you know it’s true the Democrats have enthusiastically leaned into misogyny. I mean, in this thread of all threads, you are going to reach for your talismanic prayer to Trump? You are proving the point.

What are you even talking about? And yeah right about being a Dem. You GOP thugs are salivating at the thought that it was a black Democrat who annihilated his family this time, and not another white conservative male with an arsenal.

You are deranged.

Sadly, I can’t be curious about why the legal system didn’t step in to protect a woman and her children. I know from experience that in the vast majority of cases, deference is given to male partner’s rights above everyone else’s.

To be fair, the legal system did step in and was requiring him to leave the home.

The only other level of protection is an order of protection and guess what? It literally does not protect you. I know. I'm a DV survivor that was stalked - footprints to my apartment in the snow kind of stalking and the police said they could do nothing until he took action against me aka he tried to kill me.

So there is nothing a court can do to protect a woman.

Yes, of course she saw it. Drinking husband, who was an upraising politician, and who purchased the gun and who had a history of violence against the women it was written on the wall. If he is a narcissist, there is no way she did not see him displaying those characteristics over the years of their marriage.

...AND? What could she do? Until he killed her no one would take her seriously.

Just see how many rape-deniers are currently blaming her murder on the "questionable" rapes.

For real? You think this murderer isn't also guilty of rape? Uh-huh.

The thing is, she DID get him booted from their house. The time period between the decision to leave/divorce/make him leave and the actual leaving is easily the most dangerous for women..whether is an hour or a week. Look up the stats- sadly this fits an all to common pattern.

She should have left. Much sooner. That’s the point.

She got a court order telling him to move out by April 30th, but she did not got him booted out of the house. He still was physically there and there were no protective order in place.

A protective order tends to provoke more than protect. Are you seriously suggesting it would have kept her safe with him entitled to live in the house until 4/30 and have access to his kids?

Genuine protection from abusive narcissistic men is a unicorn in most cases.

My ex attempted to kill me and my child and my lawyer said it was a long shot to get the protective order because I had to prove not only that he tried to kill us but that he was an on-going threat. How TF would anyone reach that standard?

It also took 8K leading up to the protective order trial. So it'll cost you something like 15-20k to get a protective order (or not).

You are a good example of a blue cultist, and why in polling the Democrats as a party remain less popular than the Republicans, even with a president as horrific as Trump.

Look at this thread. Look at it! It is an object lesson in Democratic failure and those of us who cling to some small hope of the Democrats maybe actively trying not to be genuinely awful are in despair. Of course I am a Democrat. I am just one who is profoundly disillusioned by the party, and this thread is a good object lesson in why. And I’m not alone. Outside of the blue cultists, the rest of Democrats are desperately trying to right the ship. People like you just want to sink it.

I 100% do not understand the people saying this is an example of problems with Democrats. As soon as the allegations came out about Fairfax, the Dems dropped him like a hot potato. Unlike people on the right who continue to be embraced despite credible allegations. Dems don’t play with that sh-t. Even Franken, whom everyone liked and who was actually good at his job, got dumped.

+1 once the allegations against Fairfax came out Democrats shut up about ousting Northam because Fairfax was perceived to be worse, and then when he tried to run again a few years later he was overwhelmingly rejected.

Does anyone know what Fairfax childhood was like? He seemed like he just was totally incapable of dealing with any set back—-if he wasn’t on a rocket ship to success, he was just going to spiral into animosity and aggression. Another person might have picked up and found a low profile way to at least put bread on the table but clearly he couldn’t stoop to that. I’m just wondering what kind of a background he came from (before Duke).

He graduated from DeMatha where he was Class President.

I suspect the alcoholism contributed to his spiral. Alcohol is a known depressant.

The wikipedia article also states that he lost custody of his children which I would think is very, very rare.

OMG HE WAS AN ABUSER! that is a choice. He threatened suicide before to get sympathy. He could no longer control or have power over his wife SO HE KILLED HER. Depression has absolutely nothing to do with it. Abusers know how to manipulate everyone into feeling sorry for them and giving them slack for their evil behavior.

His brother is the Dean of Howard’s law school.
