The only people that should be working are central office staff and all of the ‘mental health’ professionals that apparently work in central instead of in buildings. Teachers and students can come as needed. Horrific decision by MCPS.

You expected different?

Poor decision by the county to open school tomorrow. On time no less!!

Still no word on motive?

What do you think closing would accomplish?

As a Wootton parent, I think opening is a horrible decision. My kid was home today so not directly impacted but their friends just got home around 8:30-9. They came home without their bags. Older students had to leave their cars at school. They have been through a trauma and need time to process it. I imagine the teachers do as well. Plus the police are still working the scene. They should wait until Weds. This is a really bad decision.

It's terrible they can not learn after how many incidents in the county? Maybe Central Office staff who love this forum were planning to subatitute for the teachers tomorrow?

Return SROs - principals NEVER wanted them to be removed. County Executives did it anyways.

Why are they going to school if they haven’t even located the gun yet? So many middle schoolers cross the grounds to go to Frost. Young kids with zero gun safety knowledge stumbling across a gun is no good. There’s so much snow and they’re playing in it nonstop, to and fro.

Returning tomorrow is a bad idea, they haven’t even recovered the gun yet.

Students and staff didn’t get home until 8 or 9 tonight.

If you read some of the old threads with incidents at other schools and talk to parents in the county with kids at other schools, you will see that teachers are asked to talk about what happened today in their classes. Do the teachers have training to lead a ptsd session? And why the F are they even asked to? This is beyond the work of day-to-day counselors. No adequate resources to conduct an atypical return to school. Is school opening to students to collect their belongings?

What are SRO’s?

School Resource Officers. Basically police assigned to a school campus.

Genuinely curious- what Wootton parent would send their kid to school on Tuesday?

The Police said the shooter was a Rockville resident. Shooter was at his home school. Doesnt matter if he used to live in DC. People move.

This is the MCPS way. Get back to class and tuck in your trauma.

It’s also that teachers feel protective of students and each other. I would be scared, but not want to leave my students with a sub who might be insensitive or add to my colleague’s mental load.

When my school had an incident that made the news, I had just gotten up from my desk to tell the office that I was sick and needed to go home. When the incident happened, I knew I had to soldier on. I also came in the next day. Only on the third day did I take off.
