Taylor said Wootton would resume school tomorrow in the press conference he just participated in.

Interesting it took 6+hrs to do one

It took that long to develop a narrative and run the talking points past Legal.

Over 50 staff left over the summer - new principal, half of assistant principals, the head of security, the head of special education, most of counseling, and so many teachers. There was the inadequate handling of racist events. Now this. When is central office going to give Wootton the support they obviously need?

According to other parents on here its the safest best school. We can thank Jwando, the BOE, Taylor and Central Office. Many of us have expressed safety concerns and nothing has changed in years.

All schools need support. A W school should need way less support per DCUM W parents as everything is perfect.

I truely hope that student is ok.

Anonymous wrote:I have an honest question. If they do decide to put metal detectors in schools, would they just go at the main entrance or would they be up at every doorway? My HS has something like 65 doors that lead in and out of the building. Kids are always texting people to prop open side doors all day to get back in. How do we prevent that without breaking fire codes that prohibit locking these exits?

At the W high school my kid goes to there are only 2 doors that are open to get into the school in the morning. That’s where the IDs are checked.

At my upcounty HS, we have 65 doors but they only allow the students to come in through the front 4. We don't check IDs though. The issue is that at any time throughout the day, there is always a door somewhere in the school being propped open by a student to let a friend in.

Why not just auto lock them so they cannot do that?

Who's going to pay for the two extra staff members at each school constantly going around to close doors that have been propped open?

Mcps has the money.

Remember he was removed because he was alleged to have discouraged staff from completing required training by his supervisor. An allegation he was later exonerated of.

The answer is zero.

Perhaps his leadership could have prevented this.

A principal, even the best, could not prevent this.

Everything about this country is completely broken. Period. And until people in leadership positions actually care, nothing will change.

This is not about keeping doors locked and carrying clear backpacks. This is about giving real and serious consequences for fighting, starting much earlier than high school. I guarantee this was not this individual’s first instance of violence at school.

How can we support this?

Mr. Nelson prevented this from happening when he was principal. He was removed by MCPS based on an allegation that he was later exonerated of. The person MCPS selected to replace him created the environment for this child to get shot.

Either that or the principal is irrelevant?

How the hell is Wootton opening tomorrow? Teachers aren’t even home. I hope every single one of them puts in for sick leave and they are forced to close school. The only people that should be working are central office staff and all of the ‘mental health’ professionals that apparently work in central instead of in buildings. Teachers and students can come as needed. Horrific decision by MCPS.

And why would they? They are only getting richer so they're totally fine with status quo.

No, he couldn’t as the kid could easily sneak in a gun.

If we normalize it, makes it easier for people to become desensitized to it.

This is the MCPS way. Get back to class and tuck in your trauma.
