Will Trump drop Vance?

Has anyone tracked down the houses he grew up in? A nurse mom and CDL truck driver step-dad is not some dire upbringing. And then grandpa was a retired union rep, who "JD" says would randomly come home with new Chevys and Oldsmobiles. Again, not a dire lifestyle.

Are you forgetting he was in and out of foster care and his grandparents had to (mostly) raise him because his mom step dad(s) were too unstable? His mom being a top student in high school is irrelevant. Good parents don’t get their kids put in foster care. He did not have some idyllic middle class childhood and I don’t get why people are trying so hard to say he did.

Not idyllic, but he had grandparents!

No girlfriends before his wife. Sought out gay billionaire to be his mentor.

This is a “don’t ask don’t tell” veteran who sought out not just any gay billionaire, but a married gay man who kept boy toys on the side and bought two kids. This grifter is such an obvious down low gay man. These closet case Republicans are on the same conference and speaking tour circuit, where they sleep with each other and rent boys, see also the Grindr app popularity during RNC in Milwaukee.

He had it sort of rough because his nurse mom became an addict and he had to go live with grandma. But it wasn't that rough--more of a middle class tumble to working poor. Too bad it didn't teach him compassion for others.

This. No doubt his home life was chaotic, but he’s taking that trauma and blaming all the wrong people and policies.

I just watched a Frontline episode that is completely heart breaking. It follows two working class families in Milwaukee, one white and one black, from the late 80s through today. I missed the first few minutes, but it seems like both fathers (heads of household) had good manufacturing jobs with benefits and could afford to buy SFHs. And then those jobs went away, and the families had to adjust to that new reality and try to keep their families afloat without having access to similar jobs, or money to further education, or access to healthcare or insurance. And then their city suffered a similar fate, fell apart and crime went up and drug use was rampant and the houses, that were their foothold into the American dream, weren’t valuable assets any longer. This should be what everyone does instead of reading ol’ couchf***er’s (debunked, TM) memoir.

ILY

I just listened to an interview with the documentary makers of this series on "Fresh Air" last week. Even when they consider other projects, they just keep coming back to this. All I could think about while driving was ShillBilly's utter unwillingness to explore any systemic forces at play for his childhood misfortunes.

Well on the other hand, it is the party of authoritarians, so I guess Trump will do whatever he wants, though dumping Trump puts Ohio and Appalachia in play.

His body may be aging, but Biden was the mastermind and played Mike Johnson. Remember the delay tactic? The proclamations that he wasn’t stepping down. Remember Obama telling Biden to step down before the RNC? Remember the media blitz? Remember Biden saying two weeks? All perfect delay tactics orchestrated by Biden, and the two men and one woman he trusted. On that Saturday evening, 3 men— Biden, his closest advisor, and his chief strategist worked late into the night. No one knew. First call Sunday morning was to Harris. Letter made public. A little later he endorsed Harris. She immediately hits the trail, and very well prepared. Plenty of time before DNC. She has more than enough delegates, endorsements, epic funding, and her name on the ballot before Ohio plays their silly deadline games. Johnson whining “we’ll litigate.” Not legally possible. That’s why they’re clamoring for Biden to leave office now. They’re going to try to manipulate. Not going to happen. You know what the GOP platform is? Block the other side. They have no policies. They don’t compromise. They don’t work. They threaten to shut down our government. This is their only platform. You know what else isn’t going to happen? Trump demanding a refund from RNC and Biden 😆. This will be Biden’s legacy.

Perfect timing after RNC convention to take over the news cycle and keep the GOP nominee off the front page.

I believe she had a pill problem while she was a nurse. In the movies she slaps him around and he goes to live with his grandmother when he’s about 14. There’s no mention of foster care.
I believe he had a miserable child hood because he thinks he’s smarter than anyone else and had no friends. He spent all his time indoors brooding about how terrible his life was. I think he has huge mommy issues and that’s why he says awful things about women. He’s too emotionally fragile to be in line to the presidency.

+1 and also he was quite chubby as a youth and still suffers from that insecurity, coupled with feeling intellectually superior to his MAGA audiences so he comes across as condescending. That Mountain Dew thing was excruciating to watch.

He looks scarier than he actually is. He grew the beard to look tough.

The mom is clearly in on his hoax life story.

You’re dodging the question: What sort of houses did he spend MOST of his youth in? He didn’t live in seedy motels or section 8 houses like actual poor people. He lived in nice single family homes owned by family MOST of his upbringing. His book is exaggerations and lies. .

Says you? What’s makes you the expert on how he grew up? Knowing someone spend time in foster care and had unfit parents and several step fathers is enough detail to tell me he didn’t have it great.

Yet nor did I or many others I grew up with in the collapsing economy of Michigan. But we didn't decide to run for office on a Project 2025 platform of drawing up national databases of women regarding their reproductive choices or screw couches.

ANd ironically, something that wasn't even IN the book—the couch sex—is what's dominating the news cycle.

Can you imagine Trump's team right now? "JD, get the f&*^ in here. The President wants to know, "Did you or did you not f#* a couch?"

But even worse, Trump KNOWS people lie about their freaky sexy stuff and he loves to gossip. He's a guy who thinks like Page Six. It doesn't matter if Vance denies it, Trump will assume he's lying and is a freak. And as much as Trump loves salacious details, he abhors freaks. Of course, if Vance cops to it, Trump will think he's a wimp for surrendering AND a freak.

Vance is in a bind on this either way.

Vance isn’t in a bind. They’re airing it out now so it isn’t an October surprise, while most of the headlines are still about Harris and the Democrats’ convention run-up.

Remember the old, crass political rule: don’t be caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy.

Vance has done neither.

Stop trying to win on gotchas and actually consider running decent candidates with solutions for real people.

That last sentence needs to come with a PSA of "do not read when drinking hot liquids." Your prez candidate is Donald Trump. He is neither decent nor interested in ANY solutions for real people. He is only interested in getting money into his own pocket.

And drawing up lists of women who've obtained abortions does NOT qualify as solutions for real people. Ask all the voters who've passed ballot measures on the topic since summer '22.

Just like Obama was raised by his white grandparents, albeit in private school in Hawaii.

And Clarence Thomas, who along with his brother almost burned down the childhood home his mother rented resulting in her eviction, then was sent to his business-owning grandparents in the city and went to Catholic school. His sister had to stay back in the sticks with his mother.

Not PP but Peter Thiel, Vance’s mentor. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Thiel

Thiel has disowned Vance, probably in part because of Vance’s stance on gays adopting.

Perhaps because I am also from the Midwest, but you can discern the impressions Obama's grandparents left on him. Sometimes how he explains issues/tells stories has a very Midwestern flavor to them.
