And? It is weirder to act like Lana del Rey would feel like some shy forgotten girl for being alone for a little bit. Sometimes it feels like Taylor Swift is stuck in high school. |
Billy Joel deserves to be heard. And I was never a mega fan. |
Agree. The lyrics were beautiful. I was trying to explain to my Gen Z daughter that Joni is the older generation's TS. I'm a Xennial and don't even feel like my generation is familiar with her so now I'm going to dig a little more into her music. |
WHY is she losing her mind though? This is her 14th win. She's been nominated over 50 times. She is coming off a hugely successful year. Why is she acting so overwhelmed in that moment. It's not socially awkward. It's a put on. And it's not even convincing. I don't believe for one moment that she felt so overwhelmed in that moment that she couldn't have hit some prepared talking points (like mentioning the other nominees, acknowledging Celine). I mean, she knew she was going to announce the new album when she won for best Pop Vocal, the whole thing was orchestrated in advance. Well so is the starry-eyed "who, me?!" act. It's a put-on she does to try and make herself more relatable to fans. The sad thing is that it still works! |
Ok. |
Lana is 38 years old and has a lot of friends in the room. She would not have been alone and she would have figured it out. Lana protested going up, and then once she got on stage made a beeline for the back of the stage so she could be off to the side. THEN Taylor made a big deal about "come closer, I feel so alone over here!" And Jack and Laura (who were involved in the whole album) came closer, but Taylor was still annoyed and that's when she made a big speech about Lana being a legend. It's like Taylor could not just leave her alone in that moment. I feel like if someone else did that to Taylor, she would have felt super insulted and condescended to. With reason! |
Joni is the GOAT. For real. Enjoy her back catalog, it's amazing. |
I can't stand him and I can't stand Beyonce. That was embarrassing. |
It wasn't "just" her 14th Grammy. First, it was for album of the year. That's the one they all want. Why do you think Jay Z is up there all butt hurt, griping about Beyonce never winning one? Second, she's the first artist ever to win it 4 times. It was a big deal, however you slice it. |
I am not a Taylor fan nor do I hate, I mostly ignore and am really not familiar with her personality- so I was surprised she did not have more composure, grace, self awareness etc. The shock at winning a Grammy when you are a once in a generation artist was cringeworthy for me. She also looked disheveled and I was surprised she hadn’t been touched up or anything!
I am sure that sounds like hating but it really was just genuine surprise since I expected her to command the situation like more of a professional! |
This. It's condescending to treat an adult who is your professional equal (which Lana absolutely is) like this. I think Taylor is very weird about her friendships and that many of them have this dynamic where she's the other person's savior/guide or something. It's strange. Lana's not some ingenue who recently broke into the business. The normal thing to do there would have been to hug her and whisper something supportive to her before accepting the award, and then made a point of mentioning her on stage as a collaborator on one of the songs, maybe as a segue to saying how much Taylor loved Lana's album and how much talent and creativity was in the category. She wouldn't have to mention everyone by name and she doesn't need to not mention Lana at all, I mean she's on Midnights. But there was a classy, respectful way to handle it, and then there's what Taylor did. |
I am a big fan and I found the way she acted last night super disappointing. I agree with PPs that the "who?!?! me??!" act is getting supremely old - she is a megastar and in her mid-30s. Time to act like you have been there. Dragging Lana up on stage was embarrassing and her snub of Celine was downright rude. Bummed out today! |
Agree. She’s relatable to the awkward stage kids. |
It's a big deal. It is NOT, however, a big surprise. She should be rising to these moments. She is not. I feel weird saying this about Taylor Swift but: she needs media training. She's winging it, and I think she's doing what has worked in the past and what she thinks her fans want. But at this stage in her career, if she doesn't make a shift towards owning her success and power a bit more, people are going to turn on her real fast (it's already happening). If she's 40 years old, making fake shocked faces and being awkwardly rude to people at awards shows, it is not going to fly. Act like you've been there, Taylor. You are too old and established for this schtick. |
someone explain Travis Scott to me. My teen loves him and that performance was just...awful. I don't get this at all. It just sounds like he's saying random sounds and no actual words are coming out of his mouth. The beats are repetitive and boring. The song in the sneaker tie-in thing afterwards was equally bad or was it the same song? I couldn't even tell. |
