This is so great, thank you for posting. A special needs orchestra and a parent orchestra sound like wonderful innovations. I didn't know music educator was a Grammy category!

Agree. She’s relatable to the awkward stage kids.

But she is not in her awkward stage. She's in her prime. It would be much more powerful for her to own that and then give a speech, with composure and self-awareness, where she says "hey, I used to be the awkward kid and I just want to say that you can be the awkward kid and grow up and accomplish your goals." Like stop being relatable, grow up, and be inspiring instead.

It looks like arrested development.

fwiw there are photos of TS posing warmly with CD backstage after she received the award but yes, she should have hugged her or maybe had her stand beside her as she accepted the award acknowledging that she's in the company of some of the most incredible female artists of all time. oh well.

I think PP meant the awkward "stage kids", like theater kids. And yes that totally tracks.

She also looked disheveled and I was surprised she hadn’t been touched up or anything!

I am sure that sounds like hating but it really was just genuine surprise since I expected her to command the situation like more of a professional!

Agreed. I kinda like her but I thought the first speech was kind of rude and I slept through the second.

I read that the artists were "warned" not to touch Celine, who has a neurologic disorder and didn't want to be hugged onstage. I mean, she was essentially wearing a winter coat out there for protection. There's a photo of her with Celine backstage hugging her, though. I don't think Celine felt slighted at all. It wasn't her moment, it was a moment for the person actually winning the award.

I actually think Taylor looks high in those photos and Celine looks... forbearing.

The ridiculous thing about all the "Taylor's just awkward" excuses is that Celine has ALWAYS been awkward. She's kind of a weird lady. But when she was Taylor's age (and she was at a similar level of fame and success at that age, certainly as famous and lauded as Taylor is) she was not some bumbling mess acting like she thinks her name got read by accident or something. She was self-possessed and gracious -- she actually felt like one of the grande dames already at that age. Despite her awkwardness.

Taylor isn't awkward. She's just rude.

Same here. Taylor appeared to literally drag Lana up on to the stage, where she attempted to hide until Taylor insisted that she come out. Very awkward, poorly handled moment.

Did she actually do that? Why?! Lana is so talented and has a very loyal fan base and so much respect. I think it's rude and condescending if it happened the way described here. She needs no hyping.

They came together and sat together and Lana was featured on Midnights, so it is not totally random.

It did not look like Lana wanted to go up, at all, and did so only because Taylor was just in her own world in that moment and Lana didn't want to make a scene.

It also winds up being super rude to the other nominees, going out of her way to tout Lana but say nothing about any of them. Especially in a year where the the list was almost entirely female artists. I love Lana del Rey and actually much preferred her album to Taylor's this year. But to single Lana out in that way, even if she is on one track on Midnights, and say nothing about Janelle, Phoebe, SZA, Miley? And of course she said nothing about Olivia, they have beef.

Her whole speech came off as incredibly self-involved and obnoxious. "I'd love to tell you this is the happiest moment of my life"? No one expects you to say that because you've won this exact award three times before.

And the "shocked face" when she wins? She is not some 19 year old ingenue anymore. It is getting SO old.

I saw some annoyed faces in the crowd as she was getting into her antics going on stage. People are sick of her. Just absolutely over it. And I'm sorry, she may have some good songs, but she also produces a lot of drivel and her body of work is simply not good enough from an artistic perspective for people to ignore this stuff.

They played Karma when she won the award, which is NOT the best song on Midnights and kind of highlighted for me how weak the album is. They should have played Anti Hero but I think it would have felt a little to on the nose.

I think anti-hero was one of my least favorite songs on that album.

She had everyone with writing credits from the album up there, including Lana. I do agree that Lana didn’t want to go up there though I don’t think Taylor meant anything bad by it. She was just losing her mind. I’m sure she’s not happy with how it went for a few reasons but what can you do?

I think many of these people are socially awkward. They are artists.

WHY is she losing her mind though? This is her 14th win. She's been nominated over 50 times. She is coming off a hugely successful year. Why is she acting so overwhelmed in that moment.

It's not socially awkward. It's a put on. And it's not even convincing. I don't believe for one moment that she felt so overwhelmed in that moment that she couldn't have hit some prepared talking points (like mentioning the other nominees, acknowledging Celine). I mean, she knew she was going to announce the new album when she won for best Pop Vocal, the whole thing was orchestrated in advance. Well so is the starry-eyed "who, me?!" act. It's a put-on she does to try and make herself more relatable to fans. The sad thing is that it still works!

It wasn't "just" her 14th Grammy. First, it was for album of the year. That's the one they all want. Why do you think Jay Z is up there all butt hurt, griping about Beyonce never winning one? Second, she's the first artist ever to win it 4 times. It was a big deal, however you slice it.

It's a big deal. It is NOT, however, a big surprise.

She should be rising to these moments. She is not. I feel weird saying this about Taylor Swift but: she needs media training. She's winging it, and I think she's doing what has worked in the past and what she thinks her fans want. But at this stage in her career, if she doesn't make a shift towards owning her success and power a bit more, people are going to turn on her real fast (it's already happening). If she's 40 years old, making fake shocked faces and being awkwardly rude to people at awards shows, it is not going to fly.

Act like you've been there, Taylor. You are too old and established for this schtick.

Agreed. She's extremely immature for her age and how long she's been in the business.

She didn't have to hug her, but she could have acknowledge her existence. Most artists in Taylor's position would have said something like "I can't believe Celine Dion just handed ME a Grammy. Wild." Taylor acted like she didn't even know who Celine was. It was weird.

I want to see the photos are TS posing warmly with JZ.

It's going to be funny when she starts getting lifetime achievement awards and is still making shocked faces and being like "oh my gosh, me?" in her speeches.

ok thank you. I have been a fan for a long time and have never seen her be so blatantly disrespectful. Taylor is awkward but lately she's been so OTT that I am questioning what in the world is she's on that's helping her keep up with an intense schedule.

Taylor means well but her intentions don't translate that in her actions. It was insensitive to bring Lana up. The poor girl has been snubbed for years. She didnt have time to process the loss before being dragged up on stage to celebrate her friend's win. Her immaturity is staggering

Lana is nearly 40 years old. You're calling Taylor out for her condescension while referring to Lana as a girl.

+1 See Miley and Mariah at the beginning of the show for exactly how to do this.

Mariah opening the Grammys and Celine closing them made me miss Whitney. 😢

Taylor Swift is very much in her own weird little world. Just look at her lyrics, her friends, her boyfriend...It's like a high school clique, football cheerleading, coddling parents and all. Some people never grow up.
