They’ve had 50+ years to do anything pro-family and have hardly ever managed it.

How about they start by not beginning to destroy their maternal medical health care systems with these horrible laws.

They’ll wait until otherwise healthy wealthy White women with planned pregnancies start having negative outcomes. Otherwise I don’t think the wealthy White Republicans who want this mess will care.

How the F would any "pro-family" policy make a difference to women (not just Kate Cox) whose fetuses are deemed non-viable but are forced to carry to term? How would more SNAP or universal P-K help Brittney Watts from being indicted for a FELONY for "abuse of corpse"??? The ONLY policy GOP should consider is to keep the gov't out of women's vaginas. Peroid.

They have already done that. Places like Idaho already lack significant maternity health care, and places like Texas are already seeing a decline in Med School applications or matches for residencies etc.

pretty sure this is why this woman was picked as the test case - the pretty little blond suburban mom.

I still am trying to figure out their justification for torturing her. No matter what happens here, this baby isn't going to survive.

It's utterly fascinating to read the recent comments section on the couple Fox News articles about cases like these. Republicans saying they will not vote Republican because of their party's extreme stance on abortion. Republicans saying they should give up on abortion as an issue as it's costing them elections. I've NEVER seen the comment section lean this way.

Republicans are in trouble.

I have noticed this as well. In addition the comments have changed on Trump on Yahoo posted stories. They used to be nonstop adoration of the Orange Man, but not anymore.

I have noticed it on Yahoo stories too. But I do not look forward to the next eleven months of the corporate media seeing this groundswell and trying to neutralize it with “and this is why [whatever] that’s bad for Joe Biden.” They want fascism installed for good and they’re going to try to write that story.

Which always puzzles me because nothing good happens the the field of journalism under fascism. You’d think they’d rather protect themselves but instead they remain focused on short term profits.

She wasn't picked as a test case. This is real life.

This is real life for a lot of women right now. But we all know the GOP doesn’t care about *those* women. It’s very easy for them to dismiss the suffering of poor and brown women, they’ve been doing it forever and think it’s Heaven-ordained that those women’s lives be as miserable as possible. But a pretty white married mom like the kind you’d see at any Texas mega church? Different story.

I get that it is happening in real time, but I doubt this case would get the attention it is getting if she were black or brown.

I'm sure her lawyers took this into consideration before bringing the case and making it national.

I know it is a bit cynical and twisted, but we KNOW I'm not wrong here.

I recognize that some plaintiffs are picked over others (not a coincidence that it was LOVING vs. Virginia, for example) but I really do think this is the first case like this where the patient has had to go to court and then been objected to/overruled by the Texas Supreme Court. I could be wrong but this stuff is public record and there’s at least one reporter in Texas who’s on this beat all the time.

It's the first case where the patient chose to go to court. Others have gone out of state for care, or waited until their lives were in imminently at risk. I'm sure there are many similar cases to choose from. These types of complications are not particularly uncommon.

Good! I only read Fox News through my Apple News and there isn’t a comment section. I thought that was on Foxes end. Doctors should pack up and leave Texas, unless they enjoy having to plead in court before every procedure.

And? If she stands a better chance of getting people to vote these fascists into the dustbin of history, isn’t that better? That fewer poor Black (and, this being Texas, Latina) women will die if the law gets changed faster?

I’m sure you’re very proud that you figured this out, but it doesn’t change the fact that forced birth policies are death for women and our rights as humans.

Kate Cox tried to wait it out, but she has had to leave Texas to get the abortion she needs. She's been to the ER 4 times and she's already past 20 weeks.

I mean, really, it is insane that anyone should have to flee their state to get care that is lifesaving

The more pretty little blond suburban moms put in front of the American public facing this situation might open some eyes to the ridiculousness of this whole mess
(FWIW, I have the same problem with narrowness of my pelvis - I stopped at 2 children. I thankfully never faced the situation she faces, though I did have an early elective termination at 21 and had a m/c at about 10 weeks between my first and second child that I chose to pass naturally)

Countdown to AG Paxton prosecuting her for leaving state to get an abortion.
