Removal of Eaton Principal Steven Eskay

Are we going to let people with this type of behavior continue educating our children?

What behavior? IMO, none of the alleged “incidents” are even remotely threatening or endangering to the majority of the students at Eaton.

The supporters of Eskay are obviously trolls and/or one to two unstable parents/DCPS shills that are angry about a variety of things and want to stir the pot. Problem is that their own twisted agenda is distracting from the real problem - Steven Eskay. Every single teacher at the school cannot be part of a smear campaign and it’s sick that anyone finds this to be a joke. This is an elementary school and clearly neither the Mayor nor Chancellor Ferebee care about the welfare of children ages 4-11. The entire school behavioral/counseling team left because of him. His verbal abuse, temper and clearly unstable behavior is definitely a danger to kids that age. For those who disagree, I suppose your own toxic personalities are viewed as strengths in this world? You really need to seek some serious help/professional therapy.

Are the Eaton parents planning to protest like Mundo Verde? Where is the local news?

+1. This is ridiculous and very embarrassing for the Eaton community

I’m at teacher at Eaton and also feel that this is ridiculous. Many of us were bullied into signing that letter. I regret signing that letter. I have never had any problems with Principal Eskay.

Huh? You were bullied into signing a letter that you now regret but are coming on an anonymous form to do so? I don't have a kid at Eaton, and no skin in this game. But either this is a made-up post, or you are an adult that can't adult. Grow up.

This is a public matter for a large community. If the Washington Post picks up a story, surely it's ok for us to discuss it on DCUM.

Jeff, please go ahead and delete this thread immediately. These are unsubstantiated allegations against a member of the public. This is libel and should not be happening.

I bet you $1000 the IP address is the same for every recent post objecting to this thread.

P.S. I think "unsubstantiated" does not mean what you think it means. The allegations were made publicly with specificity. DCPS investigated and decided to replace the principal. If removal doesn't equal substantiation I don't know what does.

What substantiation do you want -- secret recordings? Signed statements from multiple eye witnesses, as in the complaint letter, seems weighty to me.

Are you willing to sign your claims of Mr. Eskay's sparkling behavior?

The fact that the teachers complained is, well, fact. It is up to DCPS to comment if they have a response to the teachers.

I actually think the teachers would have been better off culling that list. There are a few genuninely horrifying things, but then others just read like a list of petty WTU complaints (informally asking good teachers for recommendations for open spots; our principal does that all the time?), some of the things seem completely fine (leaving a child with other staff members because he needed to hold a meeting... the principal needs to personally baby sit any kid in crisis?) or seem like errors in judgment that I could imagine happening to anyone in an emergency (asking non-medical staff to administer medicine; if this was an inhaler, a kid having an asthma attack and a teacher he knew was asthmatic, would anyone really be freaking out if he did this because the nurse was absent that day?) or seem like things you can disagree with but I wouldn't hold against a frustrated principal for thinking (kids way behind need to skip specials to focus on core content). I think the laundry list was put together to make him look bad, but ends up just looking like nitpicking/an orchestrated campaign. They would have been better off focusing on some of the worst allegations (either those that sound the worst or ones that are clearly against the law) -- for instance, the retaliation threats against a teacher who complained mentioned in an earlier thread, mimicking an autistic child's mannerisms, calling individual teachers "f-ing" anything in public, revealing confidential personal information about individual teachers to others, etc.

DCPS would be crazy to terminate Mr. Eskay’s employment. He would have the grounds to sue DCPS for breach of contract. I surely hope that DCPS decides against listening to a handful of teachers whom have personal issues with Mr. Eskay.

Is the principal being replaced?

I bet the principal ends up taking legal action against people behind this.
