Removal of Eaton Principal Steven Eskay

Legal action for complaining together about their employment conditions?

If I were Principal Eskay, I would definitely pursue legal action against those teachers. You can’t falsely accuse someone of things.

This is 100% some Eskay friend or the man himself desperately trying to pretend like 100% of your staff saying you sick is some kind of mistake. Get a new job, honey. It’s over.

The allegations that have been cited have yet to be ruled factual by DCPS. Steven Eskay is innocent until it has been proven without reasonable doubt that he actually committed these acts. Now just because a handful of people say things does not necessarily prove that anything that is said is true.

Unless there’s video and audio evidence of these things being said, it’s simply a case if he said and she said. Until someone produces an audio recording of Mr. Eskay saying these things, I will not believe it.

It is quite clear that Mr. Eskay is being bullied, derided, and maligned by a lynch mob. A vocal minority has made it their goal to damage Mr. Eskay’s reputation and good standing in the community. Mr. Eskay has served as an advocate for students from underserved communities for years and his commitment to improving the educational experience for these students speaks for itself. What sense does it make for the countless achievements by Mr. Eskay to be overshadowed by unfounded claims of abuse that never occurred?

When we analyze the circumstances surrounding this case, the vocal minority aren’t interested in hearing the facts. They are more so just focused on jumping on the bandwagon calling for Mr. Eskay’s removal. Let me remind all of you that this great nation was founded on the principle of its citizens being innocent until proven guilty. We are currently at a juncture where Mr. Eskay has not been found liable for these alleged incidents. The truth shall emerge and we shall see that Mr. Eskay upheld the standards of decorum that are expected by any person occupying a coveted administrative position at DCPS.

If they didn't get 100% of teachers, I would suspect this too. But ONE HUNDRED PERCENT? That's crazy.

This reminds me of what happened with an MCPS upper elementary school a couple years back. A few teachers who had been in the school for a long time didn’t like the new principal’s changes, started to complain about situations, leaked them to parents and started petitions with the newer teachers to oust the principal. They used multiple social media platforms too. The principal left MCPS. As a teacher who witnessed everything first hand, the “ problems” were grossly exaggerated.

So that MCPS petition was not signed by 100% of the teachers?

Couldn’t have been because I know of at least 3 teachers who didn’t sign. I know for a fact that teacher aids were also asked to sign. Maybe they did so as “ educators” without specifying their title and bringing up the number of those who wanted the principal out. The whole ordeal was about resisting change and proving to the principal she wasn’t powerful because of certain teachers’ close relationship with parents and community members.

Point is, a lot about the 2 situations are different.

This feels impossible because the incidents listed in the letter are really terrible and need to be addressed. But also, I have experienced having people intentionally twist or misinterpret things I've said (or even just lie about what I said) to discredit me, and had people believe them, and it is seriously the most terrible feeling because when you defend yourself, people just think you are lying. And that just becomes another thing said against you. It's miserable. I even had people on "my side" and it didn't matter, because the lies were widely disseminated enough that they just became the truth.

So I think the thing to do here is to wait for an investigation and try to avoid passing judgment, if you are someone who has no direct knowledge of the alleged wrongdoing. Certainly I found out about it for the first time in this letter. That degree of cognitive dissonance (having absolutely no inkling any of this was going on) is by itself enough for me to stay skeptical until there is an investigation. No rush to judgment.

I stand in solidarity with Steven Eskay. It’s quite shameful and embarrassing how this wonderful man is being treated by the teachers and some of the parents. He’s working with quite a few wolves in sheep’s clothing. Any parent who truly supports the Eaton community wouldn’t participate in this smear campaign

I know nothing about this particular situation, but it's not a criminal trial and therefore it isn't necessary to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt . That's only the standard for criminal cases.

It absolutely applies in this situation because someone’s reputation and career are in jeopardy. When it is uncovered that those teachers are lying, they should be forced to financially compensate Mr. Eskay as restitution.
