Distressed dad says 'never did I think I would have a problem finding food for my baby in America'

Who knows but that sounds like the creative thinking the WH and FDA should have been doing. Whenever there is a recall— for example the frequent spinach or lettuce recalls— the shelves are cleared and the remaining unimpacted products go fast too based on demand. My daughter was easy so I would probably just try to wean her onto something more available. But even the other brands are in short supply. My son had issues and if couldn’t have his Alimentum, he couldn’t keep it down. FDA should know what a long plant closure looks like and should have started rerouting and exploring other options immediately. Because it is their job. This is government dysfunction at the most extreme level.

Same PP 2 above asking if Nestlé could manufacture Abbott formula temporarily rather than Nido Fortificada.

Nestlé Nido does make a toddler formula - Kinder 1+. Their products are shipped all over the world, just not so popular in the U.S. Someone should look to them and see what they can do.

My grocery store has a couple giant cans of this. It’s in the aisle with many other Latin American brands. This grocery site doesn’t carry formula for infants.

Yes, one that recognizes the particular challenges low-income people face and don’t want to see their children die of starvation because they don’t have as many options as more affluent families.

I guess in your vision for America, we would let the poor kids die.

I don't want rich kids to die because their parents can afford things either. It's not either/or. If there is a limited supply of X, you don't let Y buy it all because they are poor. And prioritizing people who don't even belong here over our own citizens is pure garbage. I'm so sick of the virtue signaling of the wealthy elite

Rich kids are not going to die from this.

Middle class families are hurting. Low income families are hurting. We should be ensuring that the children of every American citizen has formula, if needed.

And the particular measures pp (maybe you?) is complaining about at trying to address the particular burdens this places low-income families. Why do you have a problem with that? Middle class families have far more options for getting formula than low-income families.

Not right now they don't.

Yes, they do. If there are four can of formula on the shelf that aren’t a WIC-eligible brand, middle class families can still buy them. They can also go to stores and online retailers that don’t participate in WIC. A WIC participant who buys six can today rather than four but will only be able to buy 3 more cans for the entire month is not the problem here.

But I get it, you view them as expendable.

No. The point is that middle class families CANNOT FIND FORMULA.
I cannot tell you of the number of stories I have heard from presumably middle class mothers who cannot find formula anywhere.
It is a crisis that this WH has totally mismanaged, It is not like they weren't warned. Typical.

“The WH has mismanaged”?

You are a total POS. This is a serious situation and you are trying to exploit it for your own political manipulation.

Sit TF down and leave these kids alone.

Not op, but I agree. Biden has lost my vote for Ukraine and this. Will be looking to back a Democratic challenger or ev n a Republican if say Baker or Hogan run.

Sure thing, bub. That is totally believable.

Wow. There are a lot of unintelligent people on this thread. Please go to the library and open a US Government book and read what the commander in chief of the US is ACTUALLY in charge of and then report back. Goodbye.

I don't know anymore. Everyone shouts Defense Production Act when it's convenient to blame the President for inaction.

Except, that's what they actually said. Take the formula away from migrants who are essentially held captive in US custody and instead send it to American families.

Look, if the right wing doesn't like getting called out for their extreme, poorly worded rhetoric, maybe they need to tone down and more wisely choose their rhetoric, politicians and spokespeople. Fix yourselves instead of complaining about the consequences you receive.

At the same time You're blaming supply chain issues due to decline in labor force but you don't want anyone to come here and actually fill those jobs but you want the supply chain to be magically fixed

Then require that people who are physically able take those jobs instead of handing them money for sitting at home.

Yep I read a report on how low-wage mothers are consciously choosing to work less to qualify for medical, food, and housing benefits for their kids.

My question? Why is there a subsidized class of people (of all races - the average family size is equal these days) are getting paid by the government for their kids?

Was that report on Breitbart?

Even if this was true, why wouldn't we want to raise minimum wage based on this evidence so people actually want to work and will work

It wasn’t about minimum wage being raised. These women were turning DOWN raises and full-time work because if their income rose above a certain line under the federal poverty guidelines they no longer qualified for Medicaid, subsidized housing, free school lunch etc.

And then they’d be paying their entire paychecks for child care and would have nothing left to pay for housing, food and medical care. It’s convenient how you ignore this reality.

The Biden administration is locking up migrants?

Trump put a 17% tax on useful imports such as lumber and baby formula. We used to get a lot of lumber from Canada. Remember what happened to lumber prices two years ago? No one criticized Trump on that either.

Has anyone done a long-term analysis on the financial impact of that? How many more millions/billions are Americans paying for construction now because of Trump?
