I know, right?

I'd love to break the yoke of corporate welfare and grift with literal record profits to get some money back into the pockets of the people who are really earning it.

Sounds good on the surface, if you are fine with increased taxes, increased gas and electricity prices, increased crowding of cities and schools. A huge no for many.

I am actually ok with increasing taxes in the short term to pay for a healthier country in the long term.

I am a wealthy person who understands the concept of investment- the money we pay now can reap dividends later.

Children who are poorly educated and underfed cost a LOT of money pp, they just cost money later when they are unable to find good jobs or their developmental delays from lack of food causes them to have problems adjusting to and being productive members of society.

Even parental leave- the first year of a baby’s life is absolutely pivotal to their health, mental well being, and intellectual development for the rest of their lives. The more time babies get to spend with their moms, the smarter and healthier a society we will have.

+1 The Republican alternative is to force women to have babies they can't afford or who will have severe lifetime disabilities and then leave them to figure it out with zero social support. Yeah, that sounds like a great solution for a healthy society. But the billionaires get tax breaks so it's all good, right?

Exactly. It's "trickle down economics" all over again, but we now know that "down" is a total fiction. It stays with the wealthy at the top.

Increased crowding of cities and schools are your concern? Do you live in or near a city and send your children to the schools. If so, why are you not living on a farm or exurbs, instead? As nations progress, cities become the draw for people such as presumably yourself. Why is it good for your family and not for others.

Our government doesn’t have that responsibility or authority. That’s not what the United States government is supposed to have the power and authority to do.

There isn’t a single issue that our government has gotten involved in that has been improved for the average citizen. It’s all about taking more taxpayer dollars and spending them on solutions that don’t work and do nothing to improve the lives of Americans.

Sure. That's how we got where we are. Record profits for the wealthy and corporations, private equity in healthcare where 80% of physicians are now corporate employees. Money talking, and corporations are citizens with political voice.

Get on your knees and worship the rich, maybe they'll throw you a bone. In your dreams.

Trump's tax cuts for the ultrawealthy really balloon up in 2025.

Tell that to average citizen Walz whose government paid for him to go to college on the GI bill. Maybe he could have gotten Peter Thiel to pay for it?

This is untrue. What about student loans and Pell grants? what about economic reporting that the Fed bases monetary policy on? What about forcing unethical/illegal employers to pay workers overtime? What about cleaning up corporate toxic sites? What about head start? What about ensuring the food chain is safe? What about overseeing medicine contains the ingredients it is supposed to? There are tons of things our government does that improve the lives of every American.

The fed gov is supposed to be protecting our borders and funding and training our military. That’s its number one priority.

Maybe the borders are getting expanded. After all that is how the USA became the USA, expanding its borders and taking land from Mexico.

How about we do both? It's not a small government.

We don’t have the money to do both. The constitution says nothing about funding or investing in pre-k.

One in three families can’t afford basic school supplies for their kids. The economy stinks on ice. Why should the government take tax dollars to fund pre-k when taxpayers can’t afford school supplies?

The government has no mandate to fund so many things they are funding. Whatever personal challenges Walz or any other government official has faced, it’s their personal issue. Every single American has personal struggles and issues. The government should not be the answer to these personal issues and cannot be. The government cannot legislate personal issues. Walz is not speaking about the issues government has a duty to address; he’s speaking about his private fertility issues and those have no intersection with government.

Dobbs had a helluva lot to do with a lot of people's reproductive decisions. Did you want people to be ashamed and afraid to talk about what impact federal legal decisions are having on their real, lived lives in that setting as well?

The United States is made up of more than women of childbearing age who want to kill their unborn babies. There is absolutely nothing in the Constitution regarding abortion.

There's certainly something about restrictions on interstate commerce, and the GOP is salivating on preventing women from trvelling across state lines to get necessary health care. That's your creepy VP Vance, right here: a "federal response to keep that from happening ... I'm pretty sympathetic to that, actually."

Sports are controlled by the NCAA and other executive bodies, not the Gov.

And women are waiting to get "septic enough" in hospital parking lots to get care. That's the result of their private lives having an "intersection with government."

You broke it, you bought it.

Alabama Supreme Court said differently. Idaho is going after a banning of IVF. Project 2025, heritage foundation and JD Vance, all strong Donald supporters have vowed to go after a federal ban of abortion, followed by IVF and birth control.

I’m voting down ballot and leaving the top of the ticket blank or writing in Biden, so I have no horse in this race, but the whole chest clutching, guffawing thing comes off as really fake and performative to me. Sorry.

I've said this before: people who don't vote for one of the two main candidates are making a statement only to themselves. This literally helps nothing. In the race before us, there is a clearly better choice and whatever your reason for "writing in Biden," it will not be advanced by doing so.

yep. and it's cowardly and narcissistic.
