Hayfield Football Coach Fired

It was Fairfax City school board that met last night. NOT Fairfax County school board.

At the meeting, they fired the law firm that they use - the same firm that Fairfax County uses & that represented the Hayfield parents.

Let’s be real transparent here, and this is just one case, but a lot of sports from travel baseball, lacrosse, aau basketball and soccer have these same issues, it’s just a matter of what school decides to come forward. EVERY coach has an ego, and no better way to prove your metal than championships, which lead to better opportunities,it’s really rather simple. Football just rules the roost as far as most popular sport.

No other coach schedules like Overton, and when I say that, how many coaches would take a program of 50 kids and schedule a powerhouse program like DeMatha unless you believed in your kids and or system. Not one other above average program in this area would because they don’t want to risk their wins and losses, but they will beat up on local subpar teams and call themselves great.

I’m not saying he’s perfect, but I understand why these other coaches and programs don’t or let’s say would rather not play him/them.

I get that there have been many issues, but sports are optional, and in the end, how many of these kids will go on to play in the NFL? Or maybe it is just me, and I am completely misinformed.
By the way, my daughters are multiple sport athletes as well, so we are 100% supportive of high school athletics, however, academics always come first.

Of course academics should come first, but school is much more than just academics and has been for a while. now. None of it is "optional."

My kid goes to Madison and the admin there has made changes that have made the academics of this school mediocre at best. Athletics is one of the few places left at this school where kids can learn about hard work, excellence, and what it takes to succeed. IMO, FCPS is no longer in the business of trying to provide a great education. Now they are ruining one of the few good things left. If Hayfield is allowed to play, what is stopping any school from recruiting a large number of students next year. When boundaries are changed, what’s stopping any student from doing the same thing as these students and going to whichever school they want.

Regardless of the outcome of all of this, I think we can all agree that it is great that no one on the Hayfield coaching staff tried doing drugs with a minor.

Oh, wait...

He didn't have a program of 50 random kids at Freedom. If he did, they would have struggled under him the same way they are struggling this year with their ZONED PLAYERS.

I hope they checked that person's devices. That screams pedophile to me.

Is the issue that everyone thinks they (the new recruits) gave fake addresses to play for the Hayfield coach? What if they all actually rented apartments in the district to attend Hayfield - would that be okay? In the end, it is just a bunch of kids who want to play football . . . they are going to play somewhere. Not sure adults should be punishing kids by taking away their high school sport (even if parents cheated with fake addresses).

Guess what, glad you said that because what if let’s say four families decided to come together and do just that, rent out an apartment giving the kids a place to “go” after school. Damn nearblike living in a college dorm. There is nothing anyone can say or do if address is valid and the kids are “seen” going to said house/apt.

The county or whomever cannot say who can stay with whom or question why families stay together. I know it’s happened in other states. It’s a loophole yes, very well aware but parents will go to whatever lengths to make sure their kid succeeds at that sport. Baseball specialist training, foot the same, basketball and soccer the same.. so trust n believe it happens and doesn’t matter the child’s race they can be white black or spanish

You say that for a school that everyone knows recruits for baseball, so please stop the pity party show

We know our season was drab. We were only initially pissed about finding out TWO HOURS before our supposed last game that our season was finished. But we have moved on and apparently so should some of you all. We don't need your sympathy or scorn.

Kudos to the Robinson kids and parents for acting with class and humility throughout. Perhaps the Robinson parents can start some sort of mentoring program for the Hayfield football team as it appears those kids don't have a single adult role model in their lives worth looking up to.

Anonymous wrote:On the same day that Michelle Reid showed up at Glasgow to tout their “transformational” boundary review study very few have asked for, coaches from six schools informed FcPS that they are considering foresting upcoming playoff games to protest Hatfield’s flouting of VHSL rules and the City of Fairfax sent Karl Frisch a scathing letter attacking FCPS’s failure to have previously commissioned an independent and thorough third-party investigation of Hayfield’s conduct.

This is not normal, and it reflects just how poorly FCPS is being managed under Reid. The School Board may have extended her contract but others are finding ways to send their votes of no confidence in her decision-making.

Nobody cares about 6 irrelevant teams. If their coach thought they had a chance to win, they’d play. Guarantee that Madison and Westfields have no intention of forfeiting any games.

Any serious coach, is going to prepare his team as best he can and compete. If you lose, that’s part of life. This will be the last game some players will play in their lives. Let them enjoy the experience.

And only people whose lives are comically empty care as much about high school football as Overton and the parents that blindly follow him around. God I feel bad for their kids.

And you because you're on this thread with the rest of us.

Is this post for real? Or trolling?

It seems to sum up the entirety of the defense of Hatfield's conduct. With nonsense.

If this was the response in court, no wonder the judge issued a TRO. Strike as non-responsive/answer the questions, counsel.

The County cannot. But VHSL requirements are more strict: the whole family has to move and the child's address needs to be his BONA FIDE residence.

The judge ruled on a legal technicality, not on any actual facts. Judge ruled that VHSL didn't follow one of its procedural steps correctly.

I missed the investigative news series on Madison baseball recruiting. Could you link to it so I can catch up? Thanks

He is pretty short.

Misguided again unless you’re talking about the brother, the DC who is shorter than the HC

Agreed, it isn't his height he is trying to compensate for. Must be something else...

They both looked kind of short to me.
