Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Anonymous
If the kids really live in the Hayfield district there would be no problem, right? Is the issue that everyone thinks they (the new recruits) gave fake addresses to play for the Hayfield coach? What if they all actually rented apartments in the district to attend Hayfield - would that be okay? In the end, it is just a bunch of kids who want to play football . . . they are going to play somewhere. Not sure adults should be punishing kids by taking away their high school sport (even if parents cheated with fake addresses).

Don’t seem like it, I’m sure it would have been all over the place by now.

Its difficult to raise issues at school board meeting. A lot of nutjobs jump on the public commentary time slots and even if you get a spot, there is no engagement with you by the school board.

They had a meeting last Thursday (11/14) and there were zero speakers in public comment. That would have been the perfect time for families from a hayfield or these other schools that have been impacted to make their argument to the school board (they can also write). The fact that no one spoke probably sends the opposite message to the board. Complaining on a DCUM thread doesn’t address the problem.

Props to those coaches.

So much respect for the 6 coaches. FCPS will say nothing they can do now because court order so really do hope coaches all forfeit. Will bring this story to even more people, which is exactly what Reid tried to prevent by sweeping it under rug this summer.

City of Fairfax also sent separate letter to FCPS School Board. How embarrassing when another district sending letter on how to do basic governance.

They won’t quit, they are all schools that hv been embarrassed “on the field “. What’s funny is I KNOW personally some of these coaches and it’s all a sham for them to protect “their” school. But it’s too much money to lose and then try and use the senior class as scapegoats is pathetic. Let em walk.

You think public high school football coaches in VA make a lot of money? My god you must be comically unsuccessful in life.

I get that there have been many issues, but sports are optional, and in the end, how many of these kids will go on to play in the NFL? Or maybe it is just me, and I am completely misinformed.
By the way, my daughters are multiple sport athletes as well, so we are 100% supportive of high school athletics, however, academics always come first.

Intelligent people on this thread aren't arguing over a sport. They are arguing that the morally right thing (not cheat or violate laws) should be respected. On the other side, you have Hayfield and Overton supporters. They are the ones you are justifiably disgusted by.

Your English teachers failed you. I truly feel bad for you.

He is pretty short.

Misguided again unless you’re talking about the brother, the DC who is shorter than the HC

Agreed, it isn't his height he is trying to compensate for. Must be something else...

Of course academics should come first, but school is much more than just academics and has been for a while. now. None of it is "optional."

Why did West Springfield play them if they were so concerned about him violating rules? This was at the beginning of season. Why did South County play them during the season if they were so concerned? Let’s be REAL honest here, at the beginning a certain coach led some coaches with letter to FCPS about eligibility then, they were “cleared”, a couple coaches played Hayfield and got the brakes beat off them. How is it now your back on a list complaining again. The other coaches have lost to Overton led teams (Freedom) and basically would rather not have to face him if it makes their path easier.

West Springfield coach = average
South County coach = he’s a known quitter
West Potomac coach = simply sucks
Fairfax coach = afraid to play again
Lake Braddock coach = only can coach at “winning schools”
Robinson coach = they should be getting ready for winter sports anyways at 3-7

Is this post for real? Or trolling?

It seems to sum up the entirety of the defense of Hatfield's conduct. With nonsense.

Ibid.

Every time you post you prove me right. God Overton supporters sure are stunning indictment of our failing public education system.

Robinson football parent here. Believe me, we were as surprised as anyone else that we made the playoffs and we were aware that it was only because Hayfield wasn't in. We know our season was drab. We were only initially pissed about finding out TWO HOURS before our supposed last game that our season was finished. But we have moved on and apparently so should some of you all. We don't need your sympathy or scorn.
