This has to be a troll right? Show me one Virginia one travel team ranked in top 100. That club is a joke and anyone who knows the club scene understands that |
Well girls play for him, and that to me is successful. Why do they play there if the club is considered a joke? That’s a lot of money down the drain if that’s true. |
Agree that club is terrible but this isn’t the right thread. |
WP goalie |
Chantilly over Westfield 11-6 |
While the WP goalie is good Robo scored 18 against WP so I think it would tilt towards Robo here |
Not sure if points = “of the year” . It should be who consistently showed up and made an impact, like without their presence, leadership, teamwork, and talent the team would have done a lot worse. |
Completely agree. It’s the whole package for POY. |
That sounds a Team MVP award. I look at the District POY as the best player in the district. If there was a draft, who be the consensus first selection. For example, you can have a really good player on a mid-level team that is more important to their team than a great player that is on the dominant team. That is, the dominant team could probably succeed even without the great player but the mid-level team would have been a lot worse without the good player. In my opinion, the POY should go to the great player even if the team would have still performed very well. I have no idea who defines good and great players in the Patriot, but I have seen great players on dominant teams get lost in some of these awards. |
Agree. POY should be the player who would be the first pick. Maybe it is a goalie, maybe a Middie, maybe an attack. As in any draft, sometimes it can be debatable, but team shouldn't really matter. The player could be on the worst team or the best team. Stats are not really trustable both in accuracy and the fact that good teams could rest top players late in games if they are way ahead. Coaches should know from the eye test who is the best, etc. |
Does each team get a certain number of guaranteed District awards? How does a team go 0-6 in their district (outscored by a ratio of over 5 to 1) walk away with a huge number (2/3 of their starters) of District award recipients? |
They may get some honorable mention kids, maybe a 2nd team or 2 for their best players (that would probably start on most any team in the district and may be playing at the next level) but they probably won't get anyone on 1st team with an 0-6 record. |
New to Varsity. Does the First Team usually have 1 goalie, 3 mids, 4 def, and 4 att? Or can there be, for example, 5 first team mids? How does HM work? Is HM all the kids that received at least one vote? Is the number of HM limited. |
Usually by position, but some coaches will put a middie up for A or D to avoid a logjam. Sometimes there are also a couple "open" slots added for those where they may be a logjam (maybe 5 middies or 2 goalies really deserve it, etc...). NCAA does this too for their teams sometimes, so it is not out of question. HM is usually given out like candy by coaches to award key starters even if they aren't top level in the district and not much should be read into it. Coaches often scratch each others back on these to get their own kids recognized. |
POY should go to the player who proves their value against the best teams. It’s easy to pad stats against the cupcake district teams, but did your team put together a strong OOC schedule and did that player produce against the best. On the attack side these players are usually face guarded or double and triple teamed. Did they still deliver under these circumstances to lead their team. |
