Not from the Lumbarlax team.

There are five from Stars, one Pride Red, one Pride Loudon (I believe), and one M and D Black. Sprinkle about there to five others who just played rec

That’s a lot. It will be interesting to see if any of them come in as impact players. That group and any freshmen in ffx county as well.

The shootout had always been one last tourney before the season for high school teams to play and shake off the rust. Bringing in an all-star team with travel girls from all over seems to go against the spirit. Those teams should enter in travel tourneys or leagues that have a mix of teams. We used to like Valentines shootout, but don't know if we will go back next year because of it.

Not sure why folks are rehashing this tired debate, but since you are, I have to ask: where do you think privates like St John's and PVI get their players, not to mention Yorktown? Let me help, they have plenty of "all-star" travel girls from "all over"--and from a lot further than the Lumberlax girls. Why is it okay to play against multiple 5'11 top 25 senior commits from a WCAC conference finalist, but not 8th graders? These were 13/14 year olds--also shaking the rust off--not AU pros or national team players coming off training camp. They played well, but good grief, toughen up.

The simple answer is the tournament lacks participation compared to the past. The number of girls playing lacrosse in the area has dropped to the point where more and more public high schools struggle to field varsity teams let alone JV teams. When my daughters played, VS only let high school teams play. Our 8th graders formed all star teams, but challenged themselves by traveling to play committed teams at college camps.

Those who ref high school games have mentioned noticing a huge drop-off in talent and level of play, especially this year. An “all star” team now probably would not be able to compete with those of the past, so maybe VS and this team are the best match for one another.

It would be nice to see the VS go back to what it was but times have changed. Fewer girls are playing the sport, which is impacting what teams the event lets play. If we think it’s bad now, wait until college lacrosse roasters get capped at 30-32 players as proposed by the IWLCA. This will result in about 25% fewer roster spots moving forward, which may impact the number playing lacrosse at the youth level. If so, events like VS will be impacted.

I’m a ref and I haven’t noticed that. The game is totally different than it was even 10 years ago. If anything the pot is diluted by more good teams.

The dilution hasn’t created better teams, just better parity. I do a lot of games and the talent is not at the level it used to be even a few years ago.

As a ref as well, I agree that the talent and the numbers of players have dropped off. Can’t tell you how many time I show up and there are not enough players for a JV game. Most importantly, the level of play has dropped and will continue to drop.

Every parent thinks their kid is a travel player so too many average to bad clubs and teams. Everyone thinks they are great and a stud athlete and that’s not the case. Even the better clubs and teams have lots of players on their rosters that shouldn’t be. Talent is spread too thin while more and more bad clubs continue to thrive.

So, Woodson League. Serious question here. How can wet get it to not impact so many travel team practices that are happening on Sunday? Is such a pain

Great observation on this. All the big clubs practice Sunday mornings/early afternoon which conflicts with Woodson league. Can't Woodson league move to Saturdays?

I know there are issues with the rec sports, but there has to be something else that can be done
