I wanted to post something like this yesterday, but I decided to wait until YSR showed some of the initial NCSL spring results. DD's FPYC team has played both PWSI teams mentioned within the last four or five weekends. Bear in mind that FPYC did not play a competitive match in all of 2020 (just scrimmages, mostly against NCSL D1 teams). From the "eye test" alone, I think the two PWSI squads are fairly even. YSR has the two teams within one goal differential of each other and that's the outcome I would expect. The team that actually comes out on top could just be a matter of a coin toss. A rematch between FPYC and either of the teams would also be a coin toss. For what it is worth, the PWSI Courage team beat Leesburg 4-2 to open the NCSL season, whereas FPYC only mustered a draw against the same team the next day.

If training for one of these PWSI teams is significantly higher than the other, I can understand some grumbling. However, I'd think of it this way ... You're paying more to face better competition (at least for the top end of ECNL-RL VA). NCSL may be more balanced competitively, which I don't think can be guaranteed in other leagues without promotion/relegation.

This is a great take.

We all know the saying if iron sharpens iron but does it make sense for this team to be competing against better competition with not a lot of results to show for it? Perhaps it is as PP have mentioned and they may have a good coach but if the team is what it is how much can he do if what he’s working with isn’t exactly the type of players you need in that style of program to be competitive.

And let’s not forget this doesn’t seem to be isolated to just the 08G for PWSI. Beyond U13 they field one team in U18/19 that has a winning record so there’s a lot of years there where there’s not a lot of production.

Back to the numbers game though and specifically looking at U13. Inside of PWSI’s program including recreational for 08G they field a single SFL team, two classic teams, and the ECNL team. Without a huge shuffle where do you fill the gaps when you can’t even get girls to play recreationally?

Why don’t the R-ECNL and NCSL team play against each other? If NCSL wins, they take the R-ECNL spot.

I don't think it matters. Both will not do well in RL league. However, they can make a decent RL team if they combine the two teams. They don't even scrimmage and I don't understand why. It's a good way to recruit from within. None of the classic player show up for the ID session.

Bottom line , 08G PWSI ECNL RL needs to cut players and recruit better players. Otherwise , what development can they provide to the existing strong players if the rec girls on the team can’t even pass ?! Again coaches are great but they are not miracle workers. It’s time to clean the house. The fall roster will determine if PWSI is ready to make this hard but much needed decision.

That’s about the only time I’ll agree that wins and losses don’t matter is when a program is working itself out of a slump. Perhaps this is the case but the culture and comments on this page sometimes make you feel as if the team/parents think they’re in a better position than what the reality is.

Hopefully change will come to their program.

Did FPYC get 1 shot on goal against the ncsl team like they did against the R-ECNL team?

Clean house? Really?!? They are developing the players that want to play.

Yes clean house , go to a slower competition so they can develop , gain confidence then move up. They are holding the rest of the girls back.

Well if it was only one shot, they made it count.

That’s not horrible then right? I don’t ever know what the gauge is for when a team got smoked or not.

While this could be a sensible option, there's questions as to how they would accomplish this.

Who is willing to fill the holes and are they even actual upgrades at those positions considering there isn't a lot to pick from within the program. And if this team were to move back to NCSL what re-assures parents that they're spending wisely by keeping their daughter at that level with the changes needed to rebuild.

Assessment from VSA side that were there watching would be nice.

VDA just demoted 3 to the PWSI ECNL team. Interesting to see if they will stay or leave for next year

Interesting! PWSI ECNL RL is 2-3 players short to be a decent team .
