Yes, Orwell called it a facecrime. He was a smart man, this is exactly what we witness right now - persecution for committing a facecrime. |
Then turn off the f*cking TV. |
Take a deep breath, PP. I am a Catholic and what I would define as the religious left, so we get it from "our side" too. Atheist/anti-religion sentiment does not define the entire left. But religious people do have a responsibility to practice what is preached. I believe that Catholic social teaching is a true reflection of Jesus, and I choose to live it and vote by it - the consistent life ethic. (Although as an American who believes in Democracy writ large I think government needs to be 100% out of reproductive issues.) The problem is that so many right wing religious are authoritarian by instinct and behave and speak inconsistent with their (loudly) stated values. Thst hypocrisy, in my view, begs for an1d deserves a strong challenge. And if you are so weak that you can't reconcile and defend your views without behaving like a defensive child, well...... |
Did you even watch the video? The whole video? Douches. Which some kids will do if you let them. I blame the chaperones. |
No. The author of this piece is from NJ. He is projecting his experiences and really has no authority to do so. But, you folks will eat it up. |
So what does that tell you about the demographic on DCUM? |
Don't worry, unlike right wing religious zealots who want to legislate what goes on in your bedroom and your body (if you're a woman), liberals have no interest in criminalizing how you believe and act in private. Also I would wager more liberals are vegetarian than conservatives, so no worries about not eating pork or shellfish. And the crunchy types tend to love low carb, so you're good about fasting and avoiding grains. P.S. hate to break it to you, because it melts your narrative, but there's a huge wing of liberal religious pastors out there who have thousands followers. Shall I start to name them for you? |
Exactly. Anything that feeds my bias is "mic drop" worthy, even if it isn't true or relevant. |
He will. He has already been embraced by our local community, he will be accepted into a KY state U, and his parents and social network will help him land a great job. Seriously, don't wring your hands for this kid. |

In reality, Phillips served from June 1972 to May 1976 in the Marine Corps Reserve, a service spokeswoman, Yvonne Carlock, said Wednesday. He did not deploy, and he left the service as a private after disciplinary issues. From October 1972 to February 1973, he was classified as an antitank missileman, a kind of infantryman, Carlock said. He then became a refrigerator technician for the majority of his service.
Daniel Paul Nelson, a leader in the Lakota People’s Law Project, said in an interview that his group made the error and that Phillips never told the group he served in Vietnam. The group, Nelson said, “trusted what we had seen” in previous stories about Phillips, some of which also referred to him erroneously as a Vietnam veteran. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2019/01/23/nathan-phillips-man-standoff-with-covington-teens-faces-scrutiny-his-military-past/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.6cfc7903df2c So many lies, Phillips is a fraud. |
Act like a douche. Lie about it. Then get rewarded. |
Wow - That's a wonderful bit of advice. Thank you, Mencken, for sharing. |
That's the definition, for benefits purposes, of "Vietnam Era Veteran" NOT "Vietnam Veteran". When Natan Phillips was fundraising, held gave interviews about "being spit on when I came back from the Vietnam War" which is misleading because, well, he never set foot in Veitnam. More to the point, Nathan Phillips cleary knew the distinction betweeen "Vietnam Vet" and "Vietnam Era Vet" and for decades he's done nothing to correct the media when the media got is wrong. Knowing that the media are publishing a false impression of you, and doing nothing to correct, heck, quite to the contrary, fundraising based on it... |
Sometimes you have to stare the obvious for the idiots in the room. Let’s just say it wasn’t overblown on NPR. |
Oh look - an adult from that community. Why do you let kids act like that? |
