The White Lotus season 2

Anonymous
Did anyone else catch that when Dom calls his wife and finally gets through, she’s warm to him but also very occupied and can’t talk? She doesn’t say “I have clients her” or “I’m with Tracy” or “I’m at a dinner.” Just “cant talk.”

I think this was intentional to raise the idea that maybe she is, to use Daphne’s words, doing what she needs to do to not feel like a victim. Not saying that’s the obvious implication, but I think it’s supposed to make you think.

Yeah, it was. She was so flustered. There were a million other choices she could have made, from tying the rope to the banister to finding a ladder but, I mean, as a woman her size (though a bit younger) you do start to feel a bit less agile as the years go by. Jumping off of a boat and then climbing into another isn't an easy feat.

It’s just too sad she doesn’t know boats have doors and layers and a low deck in the back. she didn’t even hit her head on the way down.

Yeah. I thought maybe she’d pop up because her head didn’t hit the boat. I didn’t want her to die

You didn’t hear the thud? We did.

I agree there was a thud although you don’t see it. But I was also waiting for her to open her eyes and struggle back to the surface. But I liked that ending for her- like Mike white said, she figures it out and fights her way out, then dies in a dumb way from her own incompetence (still asking about Greg’s affair). It seemed to work well with her character

+1 many of us thought she was the character with plot armor but there was really nowhere for her character to go. This ending was fitting. I agree Greg will be the connector next season, maybe he's married to a hot young thing for wife 5 and he becomes paranoid she's trying to off him.

Maybe the will and trust go to something else. Why would it be your latest marriage partner of a couple years?

So unless Greg gets the video, no witnesses and presses the prenup adultery clause to get half a billion $$$ who knows.

That’s not how prenups work. They protect the one with money.

Prenups work however you draft them.

It was already confirmed that there would be a season 3.

He didn't strike me as a killer, just a hustler.

This. His "job" was to keep her busy and out of the way. As to whether he was attractive, his styling got worse and worse. He looked attractive in the beginning but by the end he was sweaty and greasy, made to drunk or hungover.

Why would someone rich agree to something like that? Oh right, they wouldn’t. Maybe an adultery clause that pertains to Greg, but there’s no reason for Tanya to agree to one pertaining to her.

They deserve each other, both morons 😂

Exactly. They are both suckers. Dim attracts dim and live blissfully unaware.

I feel like this is going over everyone’s heads —

The theme of the season is suckers and exploiting others — and Ethan is the MAIN sucker. Harper was manipulating him like Megyn Markle manipulated Harry. Toying with him, pressing his buttons, poking his insecurities, tug and pull until she has him wrapped around her finger. And the finance sociopaths successfully corrupted him, so they can land a chunk of his cash and extract management fees. Ethan was being played from every angle.

I feel like this is just your opinion and I disagree with you.

+1 it’s an opinion and not a very good one. In my opinion.

I think so, too. But geez I was worried for Portia for a while there.

Why did she get in the car with him? When she had the bad feeling, she could’ve just bolted.

Portia is passive and kind of pathetic; she can’t advocate for herself. She just goes along with whatever terrible situation she finds herself in and doesn’t try to change her circumstances. She even has the gall to whine about it after the fact.

Personally, I think Jack was supposed to kill Portia. He couldn’t go thru with it and was unraveling. In the end, Portia’s life or death was dependent on the action (or inaction) of others. She’s supposed to be a cautionary tale.

Agreed. She saw and knew too much.

I wondered that too. You wouldn’t think they would leave Portia alive if she’s figured it out. But maybe they were planning to say it was an accident anyway and they were just going to lie to her along with everyone else

Anonymous wrote:The Lucia / Jack comparison is interesting because Lucia is a sex worker who is sold to viewers as an apparent victim but is really a hustler who’s preying on men’s sympathy like Albie, while Jack is portrayed as a predatory monster but in the end is a real victim of a predatory older man who leverages his power, money, and untold other things over him to manipulate and abuse him.

Not once in the show did Lucia come off as a victim. She was a major swindler and acted that way from day 1. You think a pimp would let her just disappear and stay at a luxury resort for days? That scene in the village where the guy comes up to her when walking with Albie--didn't buy that for one minute. I knew they were setting up Albie and so did Dom. Dom said to Albie that he was "a mark" at breakfast. Albie was incredibly naive, but wasn't anymore after he got played. Dad was right.

I agree. I definitely get the attraction at first (and fwiw, I think the actress who plays Portia is very pretty!) but he turned gross near the end.

I think the plan was to have Portia out of the way and then tell her it was an accident (since they are planning to tell everyone that anyway). Two “accidental” deaths looks a lot more suspicious than one

Of course he was supposed to kill her. And do you remember Greg was furious that Tanya brought her along on the vacation??? She had to hide, but Greg saw her. So--yeah---then they had to kill her to tie up loose ends. In the end, Jack couldn't do it.

Portia was making me crazy at the end. So many times she could have just left- gotten a cab, called Tanya from the hotel desk phone, whatever. Instead she just went along passively. But it was consistent w her personality.

I don’t think jack was supposed to kill her. We didn’t see a gun or any plan and it would have been pretty suspicious if they both died in separate “accidents” on the same day. I just think he was keeping her out of the way.

Anonymous wrote:Up until the Ethan/Daphne scenario, both Ethan and Harper’s transgressions were the same- a sloppy kiss they didn’t want in an out of character moment. Ethan took it home with Daphne bc it his fragile ego. Gross.

Great ending. I thought the piano man was going to take out Mia. But I loved how it ended.

My take away was that Ethan and Harper were shown that they are not so unlike Cameron and Daphne. They both cheated but look how happy they were in the Airport waiting for their flight. It took both people in the elation ship cheating so that they could find happiness in their relationship.

I agree. I also think it shows stages of the marriages. Cam and Daphne have kids, are further along with more stress in their life. Ethan and Harper are very idealist at the outset of the vacation. By the end, they cheat too...and weirdly brought them closer. "What you almost lose makes you appreciate it more' type logic. But, I also think it's Harper and Ethan's transition into the life of the ultra wealthy. They are doing things they never would have done before the $ came along and they got jaded. Ethan might end up like Cam. He seemed to get a lot of power from cheating with Daphne and he appeared to really like that feeling. Harper is happy to have him back and loving again...and ripe to end up like Daphne---married to a rich guy she loves, but has to make sacrifices/excuses for..and she might do things to 'not feel like a victim' too going forward.
