1. Stokes Brookland (FR) - #44
2. LAMB-K - #125
3. YY - #99
4. Stokes Brookland (SP) - #62
5. Lee - Brookland - #40
6. MV-CO - #65
7. Inspired - #29
8. CMI - #12
9. Barnard (IB) - MATCHED

I would think the only other school we have a shot at is CMI. Would love to hear otherwise! We also received a significant scholarship to a private school WOTP, but it’s tough to beat a free investment in our community.

Barnard is better than CMI in my opinion.

Really? Would love to hear more!

Something feels...off? about CMI. I know a handful of people who are happy there, especially with their EC experience, but the combination of high staff turnover and low teacher pay leaves a bad taste in my mouth as an educator.

Barnard is a great school. We were there for preK and had an excellent experience. I agree that CMI feels strange. I would not send my kid there. Feels like the only "benefit" is the number of white kids being higher when compared to the other area schools. I could not sit well with that so we never included them on our list. We would probably still be at Barnard if we hadn't unexpectedly lotteried to a better DCPS MS/HS feeder pattern. That was our only issue with the school (it wasn't with Barnard itself).

Because I know plenty of upper elementary folks who are happy with Barnard, and I know a lot of upper elementary people who left CMI due to academic and management concerns. CMI's test scores, given their low at-risk population, are not good. Barnard's scores, given their higher at-risk population, are okay. I know that Barnard's middle school doesn't get a lot of love on this board, but people are so obviously unsatisfied with CMI's middle school grades that you shouldn't assume you'd be happy there long-term either. In DCPS you get more oversight and the teachers are credentialed. At CMI, being a charter, there's more "flexibility" which includes the flexibility to hire uncredentialled teachers and generally manage things in a strange way.

Numbers are good but hard to say. You should get in (possibly very late) at LAMB SD, one or both MV. This year is so odd though it’s hard to follow past as precedent.
