My rising Kindergartener is #8 at ITDS, my risking PK3 is #178. So my question is (1) is there any chance my older kid gets in for K, and if so, (2) no chance my PK3 kid would get it, even with a sibling attended preference at that stage, right? Also, for those who have gotten into ITDS off the waitlist, I think I've heard they have a very short turn around between getting a spot and needing to enroll--is that right? It would be a tough decision for us, so I want to think through it now so I know how I will respond if we get the spot. Thanks!!

PK 4 and would love some feedback on whether these waitlist numbers are promising at all. We are at Miner IB right now.

J.O. Wilson #20
Stokes EE (French) #20
Stokes EE (Spanish) #25
TRY #38

I've looked at historical waitlist numbers and it looks like we might be on the bubble for some of these but also looks like they might be trending towards offering fewer spots to the waitlist at all of these schools. I don't want to get our hopes up (especially for the bilingual programs) unless we really stand a chance.

1) Yes, it would be surprising if you did not get in. ITS makes many offers for K.
2) Totally possible, but may not happen, depends on the timing of your K offer.
3) Early in the summer more time is typical, but in late summer 24 hour offers are common. They are all hustling to fill up before count day.

ITS will not let your PK3 in after Count Day even if there is an empty seat. They would rather not have anyone than have to take even a sibling without getting paid for it. I have seen them do this to families before.

1. Stokes Brookland (FR) - #44
2. LAMB-K - #125
3. YY - #99
4. Stokes Brookland (SP) - #62
5. Lee - Brookland - #40
6. MV-CO - #65
7. Inspired - #29
8. CMI - #12
9. Barnard (IB) - MATCHED

I would think the only other school we have a shot at is CMI. Would love to hear otherwise! We also received a significant scholarship to a private school WOTP, but it’s tough to beat a free investment in our community.

Do you speak Spanish, French, or mandarin? Or are you just one of the many immersion try-hard parents who leave around 2nd/3rd grade because your kid isn’t learning anything and you cant help them?
Barnard is better than CMI in my opinion.

Matched at LAMB SD
Mundo Verde Cook #19
SWS #27

Seems like we have a decent shot at MV, probably not at SWS. We live in H St NE area but are willing to move if we love LAMB (we know it’s closing SD and moving everyone to Kingsbury).

Should we take MV if we get in, or stay at LAMB? I ranked MV higher mostly bc of commute, but we are willing to move (our house is small and we were going to move eventually anyway). I think Montessori might be a good fit for my shy, focused kid but it’s not a priority (Spanish was the priority).

I don’t know how things will shake out this year but last year at MV, the waitlist only made it to #4 by the time school started.

?? Per the lottery data page, they made 26 offers by August for pk3?

Making 26 offers is not the same as getting to the kid who had #26 on the original waitlist. Every older sibling who accepts and has a PreK3 sibling, that sibling will move to the top of the list. Your could start at #19 and end up at #10 even if they make 26 offers.

So this happened 22 times? Ok well regardless, would appreciate it if people would indulge me and weigh in on the choice.

If you care about Spanish, mundo is not right for you. Stick with LAMB.

Have never posted this before as far as I can remember. Sorry- I think this is a fact known by many.

Note- this is not a slam against mundo teachers. It is mainly due to people entering immersion schools late in the game with children who don’t speak Spanish.

The misconception that they take all these non- Spanish speaking kids in the upper grade is just not true. A grade or two might take less than a handful of students. Most of the time it’s kids in DCPS immersion schools that are on the waitlist trying to get in.

WL #3 or below for Lafayette, Janney, Shepherd, Hearst, Murch.

Was not expecting this - currently at a charter.

Is this because there are many spots in upper grades?

I’d take Eaton.

We are planning to take the spot at Eaton. Slightly unnerved by the discussion re: updated school configurations for ward 3, but figure that we will just take it as it comes. Excited for Eaton!

I am a native speaker and two neighbor families attend LAMB. They are in upper grades and speak passable conversational Spanish. Definitely not fluent. I know it’s anecdotal, but personally not impressed. My kids do not go to either school so I don’t really care but just wanted to offer the info.

Fluent in French, actually.

Hi! Appreciate this thread, thanks for sharing.

For PreK3, we got:
Bancroft (Spanish) 29
Marie Reed (Spanish) 20
Powell 8
LAMB Kingsbury 200+ (letting that one go
Cooke 42
Match at Bruce-Monroe

Chance of moving up at Powell or Reed? Neither looks like their respective waitlists moved much at all last few years. Anyone able to tell us more about Bruce-Monroe?

Thanks!

Are you in bounds for Marie Reed? We are and started off a few years ago around 20 on the waitlist and only went higher and higher as the summer went on- they let in students into the older grades that have siblings that get bumped to the top of the waitlist.
