What is that WASP aesthetic?

I don’t know any young WASPs that still dress WASPy regularly.

Very true.

Sofia Coppola is the daughter of Italian immigrants, that's not a wasp. We are better looking

And Jackie is Catholic.

Gwyneth’s mom, Blythe Danner, is a mega-Wasp. Gwyneth is actually too famous to truly be a Wasp at this point, but she was definitely one in high school (a Spence girl) and certainly translates that Wasp aesthetic for the masses.

Jackie was not technically a Wasp, but she nailed the look so well she remains an icon.

Wtf? Blythe is jewish and so is Gwyneth. There is nothing WASPY about them especially the way they talk. Jewish Americans people have a VERY distinct dialect..

Did Blythe convert to Judaism?

The bottom of the blog post linked here features an old silver bowl with an understated monogram. The difference between that monogram and the over the top, hot pink frilly ones you often see on Etsy, is what comes to mind when I think of WASP aesthetic. -- signed 3rd generation Main Liner

Really?! First time hearing this.
Who else (famous) has the same dialect?

But we’re talking about the WASP vibe: hair, makeup, clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc. It goes beyond that to inform a complete lifestyle.

I can’t post pics of my relatives who are the poster child, but Sofia’s google images are close.

Shoulder length hair that looks shiny, healthy and fuss-free.

Minimal makeup, but glowing skin and lipstick.

Nice clothes that fit well, but no noticeable labels. Simple, black slacks that hit the ankle so your eye is drawn to the simple but elegant shoes. Dressy casual on top.

Expensive but simple jewelry.

Nice bag that actually holds stuff.

Exudes a laid back, fuss free elegance. Warm.

That’s not wasp, that’s just “professional and curated.” Sofia looks like a rich professional woman who doesn’t want to bother getting dressed and pays a lot of money to other people to handle it. That’s different from horsey wasps.

Sofia Coppola.

My affluent wasp relatives going back generations dress like this. They live in NYC, Boston and the Main Line.

Real wasp style is nothing special. Kind of frumpy honestly. I guess part of my family is the closest thing in this area (12th generation from Georgetown/nova, 100% English, belong to all sorts of random dog/horse/social clubs).

The fact that she is known to have a uniform speaks volumes about her WASP style.

I don’t know if that’s waspy. That’s exactly how I dress and most people I work with. It’s inoffensive professional modern dress for people who have good jobs and can afford it and work in certain fields where you want to look chic and a little artsy but inoffensive. Those fields are no longer run by wasps either.

There’s a minimalism to it. Just like Carolyn Bessette and Jackie O had.

Carolyn wore a simple gold wedding band. Not a bling bling 6 carat Diamond.

Jewelry and make up are minimal. Clothes are classic. Not fussy.

I always favored Calvin Klein because I also like the minimal look which my sister considers “plain”. She has a more southern bright preppy look.

I like a more city/nyc/urban vibe. I hardly wear jewelry. If I do it’s my tank watch or simple earrings. My hair is dark, sleek and straight- just below shoulders.

My parents were raised in Connecticut. I grew up here in DC.
