What is that WASP aesthetic?

And Jackie is Catholic.

Gwyneth’s mom, Blythe Danner, is a mega-Wasp. Gwyneth is actually too famous to truly be a Wasp at this point, but she was definitely one in high school (a Spence girl) and certainly translates that Wasp aesthetic for the masses.

Jackie was not technically a Wasp, but she nailed the look so well she remains an icon.

GP embodies the modern WASP look in her minimalist wardrobe and styling. Also her keen interest in fitness and health.

Never stelettos. No cleavage showing unless it's extremely subtle, nothing shiny or brassy. So, not trampy, slutty or vegas-like.

No tight clothing or loud prints.

Yes. Only WASPs are interested in fitness and health.

PS—steaming your vagina or stuffing jade eggs up it is not good for it.

Lily is over amongst WASPs, at least the ones in the Northeast. It has long been ceded to Southern sorority girls and their moms.

southern wasp can have a bit of fun and whimsey. Ben Silver is the epitome of southern men's wasp clothing and has some color

Modern WASP style is classic and effortless but expensive looking - think Jenni Kayne. Not Brooks Brothers, Orvis or LL Bean unless you are over 60.

There are varieties. The preppy handbook does a good job laying it out—the book is mainly about WASPs (as opposed to what’s now associated with the preppy aesthetic).

I come from horsey WASPs and their look/demeanor/style is very different from city WASPs, especially in NYC or even DC. I think what they have in common is a dislike of excess or “tackiness,” a DIY kind of toughness thing among the women (the women are generally not shrinking violets but expected to be strong), a natural look as far as hair and makeup, and a frugality despite their wealth that can border on cheapness.

The look is very plain and basic.

Looks the same across various women, you don't want to look different in any way. Don't wear the wrong color, prints, no more than one or two pieces of jewelry that is small and simple as well. Straight hair, very minimal make-up. Don't look too feminine. Throwing on a pashmina shawl is as 'ethnic' as it can get.

Agree with the previous post about WASP parties never having enough food.

Jenni Kayne is UMC California mom style, but not really Waspy and not NE Wasp

Anonymous wrote:A little preppy, but very understated. Classics— button downs, straight-fit denim, ballet flats and low-heeled pumps by classic designers. Understated but real jewelry (pearls and classic diamond studs, preferably family heirlooms). The look can go a little bit tweedy or a little bit edgy or a little bit girly, but not too much.

Long hair, but not too long. A WASP needs a classic ponytail for tennis and that perfect wind blown look for photos near on the beach next to the summer house or out on the boat. Subtle highlights, but a WASP is not going to go super bottle blonde. Most of the Wasps I know have very shiny brown hair.

Very little makeup. Clean face. A little color from outdoor activity, as a Wasp should be spending weekends and holidays boating, skiing, or relaxing at one of their family’s or family friend’s weekend homes.

Wasp icons: Gwyneth Paltrow, Jackie Kennedy, a host of socialites who have also written for Vogue at one time or another.

Wasn’t jackie catholic?

Yes. And chicer than any WASP. Especially WASP’s of that era. Also, any WASP I’ve known looked down upon the Kennedy’s, and while maybe not her in particular, a bit of guilt by association.
