Team Betty!!!! |
Yes this case was still pretty popular even then. Now with the series younger people are learning about it. I met a lady who had written to Betty. She was a paralegal in the firm Dan use to work at, her husband left her after many years as well. Then she got MS, but she did forward a few letters to me. Only one item about Dan. Betty said it was like "they" invited Apple in their garage. I believe she meant it was all great until it became too big, or HE became too big. The rest was about her life in prison which weirdly sounded good. I'm sure that pisses off Dan's relatives. The more I think about it I don't think it would be so great if she got out. Especially at the age she is with no money. Nor am I sure how much support she would get from her kids. |
+1 And this was in the mid-80s===not 2021 so it was a fortune back then! |
+1 Dan and Linda completely antagonized. Linda seemed like an immature little tw&atwaffle. Link to transcripts? |
And this was in the mid-80s===not 2021 so it was a fortune back then! +1 He was sneaky little snake, all about plausible deniability. That would set anyone off. |
He was the classic narcissist. They grow 'entitled' and lose all sense of reality when they start making big bucks. The sacrifices Betty make to enable him to get where he did were crazy...I never could have done that. He was cold and heartless. Linda was an idiot and cruel. I truly see how Betty was driven insane at the time. I know quite a few women that were literally temporarily insane in the months after being blindsided and gaslighted by long-time spouses--the difference is the husbands showed incredible remorse and snapped out of their midlife crisis, and worked hard to make amends. I'm not sure some of these women wouldn't have ended up like Betty if their husbands did what Dan did. |
Agree. Betty seemed to prefer prison to the calculated hell that Dan set up for her. He didn't have to mishandle matters the way he did. |
I wonder what she is like in prison. Cant be easy eating and sleeping in prison given her luxury lifestyle I’m San Diego. |
This is what I found. She is busy and has found peace from what I've read: https://thetab.com/uk/2020/08/24/betty-broderick-now-dirty-john-netflix-172384 |
I'm sure it was a brutal adjustment and there were issues with her acting out in the beginning, but now she seems reasonably content. Has been a model prisoner for at least 20 years, worked, helped other inmates get their GEDs, participates in a knitting circle, watches tv, corresponds with her "fans" (who also send her care packages of magazines, greeting cards, and stamps). Figured out she can be a sort of queen bee even within the limits of the prison. Fun fact: two of the Manson women, close in age, serve in the same facility. Her younger daughter said she has a room ready for her, and social security and medicare should be adequate for her needs. But since she's never likely to convincingly express remorse, it's unlikely she'll gain release except a "compassionate" one in her final days. |
| ^^ can't say I blame her. I'd probably not feel remorse either in her situation, though I do blame her for not caring more about what this horror show did to her children. |
Yes, that's the only point I really don't get. Even if she felt driven to a psychotic break (which I can see), the failure to have remorse for having orphaned her kids suggests a serious screw loose beyond the break itself. That's when I lose sympathy for her. |
| Dare I say -- hopefully this serves as a lesson to all men. |
AND THE OTHER WOMEN TOO!!! |
| I found her callous attitude toward her children's suffering appalling. She was abusive in dragging the kids through the divorce. Am I the only one that notices this? The phone calls with the younger son were horrible. |
