Which post said that Dan and his new wife deserved to be murdered?

One of the pp's said some of the shows tell Dan's side. I said the other side is that of the murderer.

This murder has a very sordid past of people saying Dan and Linda deserved it. Betty even has a fan club that keeps her commissary funds full. She is a sort of aspirational figure for women whose husbands cheated and left. I don't condone his behavior but I also don't want to hear the "side" of the murderer. She has continued to smear them in death, and who wants to be a part of that? Police can't find any evidence rhat Linda wrote cow on the checks or other things Betty accused her of and her friends say that would be out of character.

So no one said they deserved it. Glad you confirmed that.

So this is an old story that got lots of press and made for TV movies. How do they keep it fresh?

The phycological narration going on throughout the story. Fascinating insight into thinking of both characters and their control or lack of control issues.

I know! She just got stuck there somehow. I mean at one point he was paying her $16K/mth in alimony. I think I would have stfu, got my kids and kept it pushing. If you don't want ME, I don't want YOU.

There's a woman in the relationships forum who sounds like Betty re: her cheating spouse.

I don't think anyone deserves to be murdered, but I think you can also bring bad karma on yourself by being a terrible person. And Dan was.

My mom was on the jury that hung. She voted for murder, had a lot of sympathy for Betty as a fellow SAHM, but felt she also was a brilliant woman and an expert manipulator.

I just binged Dirty John season 2. I've seen the Meredith Baxter movie a few times but years ago. I really didn't think anyone else could play Betty, especially skinny brunette Amanda Peet, but she was fantastic! This version had much more of Betty's side of the story.

Wow!

When I lived in San Diego I worked with a woman who was Dan’s legal secretary. Small world!

Also, didn’t realize that almost all of the content for the Lifetime movie came from Dan’s family. They didn’t address any of the behavior from Dan’s GF/wife such as writing “maintenance for the cow” on Betty’s alimony/child support checks. The second movie also didn’t address Dan’s brother stealing the money that was meant to be for the boys.

I’ve DVR’d this version but haven’t watched yet.

I would love to re-watch the Lifetime version again! It did seem very skewed towards Dan's side.

Well the other side killed two people.

There’s a lot more to this story than was in the Lifetime series. It’s good background as to why Betty was so crazy and why two of the kids forgive her.

Because writing rude stuff on the checks justifies murder? OK.

Except all the people who are saying we need to hear “Betty’s side of the story?”

Yes, the gaslighting and cruelty was horrible. My young teen son watched a little of it and concluded that he drove her insane. I had to explain to him that psychological cruelty doesn't justify murder, morally or legally. But he was very sympathetic to her.
