Yeah so much evidence of a nervous breakdown, not sure how anyone perceived all her nutty actions as those of a rational woman. She never seemed especially clear or deliberate in her actions from day 1 of the separation, more like someone whose mental health continued to deteriorate throughout the ordeal. There is a reason neither jury was unanimous about intent. The one or two holdouts in the second trial thought the lesser charge of second degree meant she'd get a lighter sentence. They should have held out for manslaughter. |

It hasn't helped her that 2 of her kids are opposed to her getting parole.
She's served her time and should be released -- it's doubtful she's a threat to anyone aside from Dan and Linda. |
The psychiatrist expert on infidelity, Dr. Lusterman, gave fascinating testimony in the first trial. He stated clearly that infidels who gaslight their victims are abusers, and that it is normal for victims to "act crazy" when their feelings of rage and betrayal are never validated in this situation. He also said denial and pretense by the victim are not uncommon, and he found it conceivable Betty lived in such a state up until the moment she walked into Dan's bedroom and found him sleeping next to Linda. For some reason his testimony was not permitted in the second trial. |
And this was just the infidelity piece, not even touching the financial and legal abuse. |
I'm not clear on whether they still oppose her release. I believe their opposition dated to the 2010 parole hearing. I'm not sure if details of the later one were released. Maybe they do feel the same way now, but I don't think we know. |
She supported the family by holding down those jobs when he was a student. He opposed contraception for some weird reason. Maybe he wanted to keep her pregnant the whole time What she really should have done is study herself, make him do his bit by working as well. But I suppose he convinced her that it was he that should study and not her. A girl should never agree to that |
| I do feel sorry for her. He was utterly hateful toward the mother of his children, treated her like another legal opponent to grind into the dirt. All that time he was claiming to work long hours during evenings she was home with their brood, he was carousing with his buddies at the local bar and screwing a mistress not much older than his oldest child. He gaslit and humiliated her, at least he could have been financially generous. But he was determined to screw her over, and humiliate her some more. He sent her the note saying something about her losing custody of the kids just a few days before her birthday, and she shot them the next day. I don't condone murder, but I can imagine how she felt and do think she displayed clear signs of unraveling for quite a while before the murders. |
If Linda and Dan had survived, he eventually would have done the exact same thing to Linda. |
| It’s a page from a narcissist playbook, the husband rewrites history by erasing and debasing the ex wife while elevating his new bride/ Still no excuse for murder. |
Yes, especially if she ever dared to assert herself. I read Linda had a large bruise on her wrist suggesting she had been handled roughly less than 24 hours before her death. Crazy to think two women were fighting over that awful man. |
| ^^ oh and he must have been pretty drunk when he went to sleep because his blood alcohol level was .04 at the time of his death. He had two DUIs. |
Linda was broke and wanted to be financially set for life. Betty was a lot of the reason for Dan’s success and wealth and he saw screwing her out of everything. They were hanging on for different reasons. |
| She's an old lady with healthy problems who is clearly no longer a threat to society. Why on earth hasn't she been released? |
| *health |
| I agree she should be paroled. Apparently she's been a model prisoner and has done a lot of good for fellow inmates. I don't believe for a second she's a threat to anyone now. Oscar Pistorius is now eligible for parole ffs, and no evidence there his gf had tormented him in any way, shape, or form! |
