So criticizing someone for exaggerating their resume is a "republican talking point"-- no, it is not. At best it is dishonesty to exaggerate your work experience, and at worst an outright attempt at fraud. But then again, she is Katie's protégé, so to be expected.

You think it’s fair and square for Katie Cristol to have given a coworker a prime committee slot, in order to give her “experience” to run for SB in a county she’s lived in for less than a two years? The scales have been tipped in favor already, that’s what people here are complaining about.

GMAFB. Do you know how many committees there are? And how many of us slog away for years on end without ever running for office? Most of us are on them to make a difference in the community we live in and love, not FOR OUR RESUME!!!

What is she going to do for MY KIDS and the kids of Arlington? Sounds like it’s more about what this position is going to do FOR HER and her career. That’s just wrong.

I don’t like all this insider politics, where the regular citizens, who are also Democrats (because there are like 10 actual Rs in all of Arlington), are told who we should support before everyone running has even had time to announce. All the candidates are Democrats. I am voting based on their familiarity with our community and our schools, and how they hope to shape our kids’ futures. The rest is surface BS. Right now I’m leaning Symone. Possibly Dave for the other spot. They are at least parents and parents of students of color, and I think that’s a valuable perspective. If a different Latinx candidate had run, like Gabriela Uro, or a former APS student and recent graduate, because this isn’t just about age, I would’ve strongly considered them. I don’t want anyone who cares more about their future aspirations than about this exact position.

The fact that she is the central focus here is very very telling! If she is inexperienced, unqualified and unprepared, why such a feeling of threat? Shouldn’t you all just dismiss her as the child that you cast her to be? Most of the other candidates have hardly been mentioned. All the candidates will have the opportunity to equally debate each other, attend public forums and hear for themselves. All you have done at this point is to flush out debate talking points now for her campaign. I look forward to these public events and watching her build a bigger base. After that I look forward to electing this young leader in May!

We said it 5000 times. She’s the focus because she’s an under qualified new come that party hacks are foisting upon us. It’s pretty f’n clear the reason is to make sure the SB stays in its place and doesn’t do anything that might slow down the affordable housing heavy train.

Because she is backed by ACDC and therefore has some level of support — and will get all her other childless clueless about kids young democrat friends to vote for her. All in the name of politics — not who will best serve the children of Arlington and all the complexities involved in running a school system.

Others don't have the opportunity to do the hard work when selected people with connections are appointed in their stead. Many long-time residents do apply for these things and are not accepted....but she was - on MULTIPLE ones. THAT's what people are complaining about.

Interesting discourse here. The young lady looks like she has potential. I hate to say this but it’s hard to imagine a white privileged person being able to accurately represent the 30% of latin students currently enrolled. I appreciate the work that Tannia has done and if she is endorsing Cristina, then so am I. 90% of the kids that dropped out last year are latin. Tannia has been a very wise and measured leader for us. Her support for Cristina is enough. With a median age of 33 in Arlington, we should not have leaders that are two generations removed from what’s actually happening in our schools. Perhaps that’s what’s going on here. There are a ton of young leaders all over the country rising up. I say give them a shot and pass the baton. I plan on voting for her!

Quite the opposite. The CB is addicted to AH development, and it’s become an industry that keeps a lot of white collar people a six figure income. Every year we open another multi family development that produces 100+ high needs kids. Does the county board plan for this? No. Do the nonprofit developers acknowledge that these developments have a large impact on schools, which need additional resources? No. Did one dime of the 20 million from amazon go to schools? No, every penny went to building more affordable housing, which will in turn bring hundreds more high needs kids to APS, and south Arlington in particular, with no additional facilities or dollars to serve them. To be blunt: poor families are a money maker for the powers that be and they don’t want to put aside any of that money for schools when they can pocket it themselves in the form of more developments and higher salaries. That’s why they want to control the school board, so that no one says, “hey, while you’re spending tens of millions on affordable housing, how about spending a little on educations, too?”

All it takes is for actual APS parents to show up for the caucus.
Tell your neighbors, and tell your friends. Push push push it at the PTA and scout meetings. Mention it at soccer practice. Get parents in the loop now. Don’t wait till May.
It’s not the young Democrats that just follow the ACDC party line, it’s the retired boomers. They’ve got nothing better to do, and most don’t really have a dog in the fight anymore. They’ll vote for whoever they are told to vote for. If you’ve ever been to a SB caucus, you know it is the well intentioned grey hairs almost exclusively. Very few current parents make the effort.
So, get the word out to your FB neighborhood playgroup now.
There are 2 seats and a couple of great candidates.

If you don’t understand this, you don’t understand Arlington. It’s very cynical and not often stated in polite company, but it is a fundamental truth.
