The ACDC needs to step back. If I have to make phone calls on the "anyone but Christina" platform, I will. |
Lots of older diehard Dems were rushing to her defense on AEM, going so far as to say they see nothing odd about someone so young and so new to Arlington being on so many important committees. It’s sickening. |
I don't understand why they trotted out endorsements so early instead of holding off and pretending like the endorsers had considered the field and picked who they thought was the best candidate. Coming out the gate early just shows who the real party stooges are. |
AEM is not a source for reality based information anymore. It's entertaining and occasionally useful, but you pretty much have to fact check everything. |
Is that who they are? Every few months, someone shows up and, without reading any posts or asking any questions, starts announcing how things ought to be. It's been heavier the past month or two (or it feel like it), but I didn't realize that was where they were coming from. |
Thanks for this. I didn't recognize them but then I am not at all involved in Arlington Dem politics. |
Just looking at their websites those would be my choices too. I've met Terron also - he seems like a good guy. Symone's platform on her website is ridiculous - nothing about capacity and actually educating students. No way would I vote for Cristina. |
Terron seems like a good guy but also one of those people where I'm like....what has he ever really done? Like, he shows up at things, and he's good at getting his picture taken, and getting appointed to stuff, but does anyone ever say he's accomplished anything? Like when Reed ran, people talked about how he had pushed hard to get the left turn lanes when they redid the Glebe/Columbia Pike intersection. And when Nancy ran, people talked about all the things she had done to help parents of students with disabilities. Terron shows up, but does he lead? I don't want another Tannia on the board, who is a perfectly nice person, but doesn't really help lead us through all of the tough decisions we have to make. People may find Reed and Nancy abrasive, but they put in the time, know the issues, have a point of view and will defend it--they aren't just there for the photo opps. |
When was that thread on AEM? All I’ve seen whenever her name is mentioned in most people saying what’s been said here. I’ve only seen maybe 2 people defending her. |
I like Sandy a lot and it seems others do to. Can all non-young Dems please choose a second candidate to get behind? I don’t want to split votes and have Christina sneak through. From the speeches, my second vote would be for Priddy, but really don’t know. Anyone except Christina. |
Why does everyone on the school board have to be 45-60 years old? Isn’t there some value in bringing in a younger voice? Maybe Christina isn’t the right person, but as a general matter I think a younger voice could be good as 1 among 5. |
I read the AEM posts where the word conspiracy was used, but all the poster really said was that it seemed suspicious for such a young and relatively inexperienced candidate to enter the race armed with such powerful endorsements before the field had even been established. The poster who responded criticized the comment as treating normal politics as a conspiracy theory. Overall, I agree with the sentiment that Cristina is being pushed on us - quite openly, and not through secret scheming - and that she represents the views the Democratic Party wants its candidates to promote, without any consideration for whether that vision aligns with the priorities our community wants to set for APS. They could have found someone with at least a little genuine connection and history with APS, but instead they decided to not even pretend to care. |
Priddy is running on equity, fiscal responsibility, and transparency. APS really needs all those things, and that's pretty much what I want out of the board. We just need solid people who don't suck. |
Symone and crew were big Parisa supporters. I think they’re feeling esp put out by her endorsement of Cristina. |
It was a post from before winter break where people questioned how she got on so many important/influential committees after having been in Arlington a hot minute. Some people said they had applied and not accepted on those committees. And a bunch of democratic blue hairs came in acting like all you have to do is be willing to do the work and you too can be on those committees. It was insane. |
