Also, the person above who claims Cristina "helped implement ESSA"-- that made me spit out my coffee. She spent *1 year* as a legislative "fellow" in Senator Whitehouse's office-- which anyone on the Hill will tell you is a fancy name for an internship. Not to mention that most of the work implementing federal legislation gets done by the agencies and not on the Hill. But keep padding that resume Cristina.
Building off the ridiculousness that Christina helped shape ESSA....the law was signed in 2015 which means most of the “shaping” happened when Christina was still a STUDENT. It was signed when she was barely into her first ever job as a TFA ill-equipped teacher. Let’s vote for candidates with actual experience and roots in Arlington.
Love all the republican taking points in this group. When the voters hear from Cristina personally, I believe her message will resonate with them. Change is coming!
So criticizing someone for exaggerating their resume is a "republican talking point"-- no, it is not. At best it is dishonesty to exaggerate your work experience, and at worst an outright attempt at fraud. But then again, she is Katie's protégé, so to be expected.
First... I was referring to the overall tone in this group. Secondly, have you personally interacted with her? Don’t make assumptions about what you think you can gather online. Perhaps you might consider reaching out to her directly to educate and better inform yourself. I’m very excited that a young person has decided to run for office and I can’t wait to see this play out fair and square! You all have fired me up even more and I hope it’s not too late to host a meet and greet. Who knows, she might just win you over too! See you at the polls!
You think it’s fair and square for Katie Cristol to have given a coworker a prime committee slot, in order to give her “experience” to run for SB in a county she’s lived in for less than a two years? The scales have been tipped in favor already, that’s what people here are complaining about.
That’s your interpretation and you’re entitled to it. I would simply invite you to do your research and know your facts before making false accusations. This is hardly true. She showed up, did (and continues to do) the hard work when no one else does. There are openings on several commissions and I encourage you to apply. Put up or shut up!
GMAFB. Do you know how many committees there are? And how many of us slog away for years on end without ever running for office? Most of us are on them to make a difference in the community we live in and love, not FOR OUR RESUME!!! What is she going to do for MY KIDS and the kids of Arlington? Sounds like it’s more about what this position is going to do FOR HER and her career. That’s just wrong. I don’t like all this insider politics, where the regular citizens, who are also Democrats (because there are like 10 actual Rs in all of Arlington), are told who we should support before everyone running has even had time to announce. All the candidates are Democrats. I am voting based on their familiarity with our community and our schools, and how they hope to shape our kids’ futures. The rest is surface BS. Right now I’m leaning Symone. Possibly Dave for the other spot. They are at least parents and parents of students of color, and I think that’s a valuable perspective. If a different Latinx candidate had run, like Gabriela Uro, or a former APS student and recent graduate, because this isn’t just about age, I would’ve strongly considered them. I don’t want anyone who cares more about their future aspirations than about this exact position.
