APS - Who is running for School Board?

Does the I candidate (Susan Cunningham) running against Takis have a shot? I don't know her, but her LinkedIn bio shows a deep involvement with APS. She seems like a much better choice.

I’m definitely going to be taking a close look at her. I’m quite disappointed that Chanda didn’t get the nom.

Does Cunningham have a website/Twitter?

I am one of Sandy Munnell's (or Ms. Munnell, as we call her) students at WL. Ask me anything.

All the experiences I've had with her have been good. She's very helpful and she has a pretty good reputation, especially compared to other teachers in her position.

I can't fully judge her suitability for the Arlington School Board from those interactions. But based on her platform and endorsements I'll probably be ranking her #1 or #2. I think there's value in having a current APS teacher on the School Board.

I'm probably the only high schooler who'll be voting in this primary

No further questions.

You can't have a current teacher on the school board. She has to be retired.

Come on. Do a little research. She retired several years ago, now works on a part-time contact managing a component of W-L's IB program. She knows her stuff, calls out what's not working, and advocates for the good things that APS does right. I've spoken with her twice and am VERY impressed.

I think the other commenters were just confused about the post as I am. This doesn't mean that we are uninformed or not doing our "research." I'm not supporting Sandy because she is condescending. It's asinine for her to believe she is so smart that she has all of the answers. And so much so, everyone else, and their visions for APS are unimportant. If she wants to be a technocrat, she should have applied to be superintendent. What bothers me most about her is that while she claims to know APS better than anyone else, she hardly talks about anything but reading. Reading is VERY important, but come on.

I am not going to comment on that other post but wanted to say that Sandy should have done her own research. Technocrat and Democrat are not the same. Also, I'm sorry if this is negative but I'm bored with her supporters talking down to everyone else. I had planned to include her in my top three choices. At this point, even Steven appeals more to me.

In other news, we have a new superintendent. What're everyone's thoughts?

Where was this? On AEM?

I’m glad I haven’t received my ballet yet (is it ever coming?) because it will give me more time to think through the new superintendent and the board.

I had a similar thought. My ballot arrived yesterday!
