I can totally see why someone would want all that.

Honey, this isn’t Omaha. This is Arlington..99.9 % of APS parents are thrilled to make everyone feel welcome. They just don’t like cheating. That’s all.

Don't honey me. I was responding to comments calling it trendy and that is it. I was not responding to comments about sports which I think is legitimate. And there have been transgender women murdered just across the river, so don't act like we are in some amazing place of tolerance. Hatred exists everywhere and the risk of being trans exist everywhere.

Which locker room they use and which team they can play with are two totally separate issues. Locker rooms can be their choice, but the girls’ teams should be off limits to those who were born with male physiological advantages.

But it is. I don't see how you can deny the reality of that today without sticking your head in the sand. Every generation has some way of rebellion. It's been hippies, punk, goth, emo, anorexia, cutting, tattoos, piercings. Today it's playing with gender. Trans, non-binary, gender-fluid. You can't say that there isn't some sort of trend going on. Puberty is always a time of confusion and distorted thinking. And these days there's alot of it swirling around gender issues.

With the possible exception of boys in some areas, (and for some reason about 90% of people who identify as non-binary are girls) There is absolutely no social risk, it is 100% accepted if not applauded. I see this every day.

People don't realize that it's not like that anymore among the HS/College age crowd. I sub at various high schools and there is absolutely no social risk to being trans. I know it seems hard to believe but it really is true. And for non-binary, well - it really is a trend. Almost every alternative, emo kid is non-binary or genderfluid now. I really don't think adults have any idea how common this has become.

But do you not see the problem with allowing people who don't even identify specifically with another gender (such as those who claim to be non-binary or gender fluid) to just be able to choose whichever space they want to be in? Like a non-binary boy who would rather be in girls' chorus, or the non-binary girl I mentioned earlier who wanted to run for prom queen. They don't even identify as the opposite gender, but according to their line of thinking, since they identify as both (or neither) they should be able to choose whatever they want, whenever they want. Can't we just go back to using the word sex instead of gender to stop this nonsense?

DP- The bubble we are discussing is Arlington.
Lack of awareness and insensitivity elsewhere is not relevant to this discussion.

I am not saying xx females are not murdered.

I am just saying there is a trans individuals experience a higher risk of violence. Amongst transgender individuals transgender youths are at an even higher risk of violence. Including higher rates of sexual assault. And that is not even including a higher risk of suicide. I am not sure why you are even arguing with me on this point. Sure, some HS's maybe inclusive but people occasionally have to live there life outside of the doors of the HS. I think referring it as trendy dismisses the issues that many transgender individuals go through. That is all.

I’m addressing pp’s assertion that it’s not like that among the “hs/college age crowd.”

Thanks, and I’ll just put this right here:

No one has yet addressed how we handle kids who claim to be non-binary. Do you let a boy who says he is non-binary join girls' chorus or track, because why not? Since he's neither a boy or a girl?

Only interested in stats, studies, and results specific to Arlington and APS. Thanks.

Yes. It’s the logical conclusion of these policies. Maybe the individual feels more comfortable in women’s chorus etc.

That would be nice.

But SJWs have made this their latest crusade, so it will take a while until they go destroy the lives of some other group.

Also, do you realize that a kid does not need to be taking hormones or under a doctor's care to claim they are transgender? (even the old-fashioned type of transgender of identifying with the opposite sex, not non-binary)

So a kid could be going through a confusing spell, not seeing a psychiatrist and decide that he's transgender and the school would need to treat him that way, because that's just what he says.
