Feds uncover large-scale college entrance exam cheating plot

I know of a gal with a billionaire father who ran cross country at an HYP. She was an adequate but nothing special high school runner. She was legitimately on the HYP roster for at least her first year. She seemed to spend more time on exotic trips than on campus.

URMs do not bribe to get their kids into these kinds of schools, They get there in such large numbers because of their athletic abilities and test scores primarily.

I scanned the 200-page complaint. It looks like at least some of the students did take the SAT and /or ACT, just with accommodations at a particular testing center. One parent was warning Key to not make the corrected score too high or the kid wouldn’t believe it. Obviously the athletes who weren’t athletes are a different case, but from what I read it seems possible that the kids didn’t know.

Lori Loughlin’s kids definitely knew. They even posed on an ERG machine to help their application as crew recruits. LOL

Right. That’s why I said above that the kids posing as athletes most likely knew. But I can see how some of the students who weren’t going the fraudulent athlete route didn’t know they were doing anything wrong.

Looks like they didn’t go to a good private school w top admissions counselors who could have advised them how to do this “legally” - lots of wealthy people whose kids are athletes who get into ivies w donations commitments

Even if the kids didn't know their parents were involved in the cheating (e.g., didn't know their SAT answers were being corrected), the info on their applications was false and the product of fraud, and has made public. If they aren't kicked out, there will likely be outrage on the part of families that had better stats and actually would've qualified for admission. The colleges have to protect their brand.

Apparently Loughlin's daughter bragged about how she is only going to college for game days and partying: “I don’t know how much of school I’m gonna attend,” she shared with her nearly 2 million subscribers, after explaining her extensive work schedule. “But I’m gonna go in and talk to my deans and everyone, and hope that I can try and balance it all. But I do want the experience of like game days, partying…I don’t really care about school, as you guys all know.”

There is a market for this kind of corruption and so it exists. Lack of transparency in how colleges select students is also a factor. It allows them to discriminate against Asian-Americans, it allows them to take bribes (legacies and donations are no different).

We’re right now in the thick of college application time, which is so stressful. I am voting that once she gets accepted, she maybe takes a year off. God doesn’t let you be 18 twice. I know from casting, if you need a 25-, 26-year-old actress, there are a lot of them out there and they’re really good. But if you need a 15-, 16-year-old actress, it’s tough. Sofia looks young. I think this is an opportunity for her. But it’s just my opinion, and we’ll see what she wants to do, what Felicity thinks and how the chips fall. My daughter Georgia, she’s interested in politics, political science and pursuing that. She’s in a very academic school and killing it.
