This dude plead guilty to less charges while Aunt Becky has 4 including federal wire fraud on her plate.

you think ONLY 15 months? That's not that much more than the 9 months Mr. Pimco - who plead guilty, got. And he also got 500 hours of community service, and a huge fine.

Aunt Becky and Uncle Target have got to get way more than that, especially when you add in that they're wasting tax-payer dollars, wasting the court's time, and pissing off the judge.

Love how they say stuff like, “I unfairly .. tipped the scales in favor of my children over others" when they mean, "I kicked four qualified kids out of schools that could have been their dream schools that they'd worked their whole lives for, that could have really made a big difference to their futures, so my entitled and unqualified bunch could be there instead".

The real issue here is that USC is pissed that (1) someone else decided what "qualified" meant instead of their convoluted selection process (2) the proceeds did not go to them directly but to grease someone else's pocket and (3) This scandal is shining unwanted light on the "oh so so above-board and legal seats for cash" racket that the universities run which impacts their image in the short-run.

How I wish this had been Harvard..

Lori is doing the right thing. She's scum no doubt, but I can't see a jury unanimously convicting her..

I hope the next Dem pres will make it all but impossible for side door, back door people of privilege to do this kind of thing.

Planet.. earth.. USA! Because none of the others were tried. They all plead guilty and took the punishment. That was their strategy. All she has to do is convince one Jury member to hold out. Not impossible. Quite probable actually. Lawyer plays an important role. See what happened to Elon Musk in his latest trial (Pedo Guy comment) and how the lawyer convinced the Jury to acquit him.

DP. I don't think "average citizens" are going to look favorably on this type of entitled behavior. It's the reason the rich get richer, which most Americans hate.

PP here.. I'd rather see her go to jail. However, the way DOJ has stacked up the charges, it might be easy to convince one or two jurors that they are being unfair to her relative to the others just because she chose to fight back.

I agree that there is a good possibility that Lori will be acquitted IF defense can come up with some plausible excuse. I can't imagine what it would be, but a highly talented lawyer could make it happen. We've seen it happen in all sorts of criminal cases.

The difference I see with the Pedo Guy comment in the Musk trial is that people use adjectives and nouns as insults without necessarily actually intending literal translation or meaning. Not to imply this is right, simply that I can see an argument to be made (was made?? I have no idea what their argument was) by the defense in this case.

the other big difference is that a lot of people...most people cannot personally relate even a little bit to the "Musk/Pedo Guy" situation. In the case of LL, some of those jurors either have kids who will be applying to colleges, or had kids not admitted to colleges even they had high test scores, etc.,. So it will hit close to home. Nothing's worse than a scorned parent.

don't know why that response ended up merged with the PP's response: trying again.
