How sad that Lori Loughlin paid $500k and only got them into USC!

Thankfully, the one has her YouTube channel to fall back on.

Yale woman soccer coach took $400k to take a woman who didn't even play competitive soccer. $1.2 million paid to the consulting service for this.

There is a family at my daughter's private who have sent 3 girls to Princeton lacrosse over the last 6 years. Only one of the three actually plays in games consistently, the other two are on the roster but dont get into games. The family is flashy rich (the tacky kind); I wouldnt put them above bribing their way in.

It doesn't surprise me. But it is sad. Desperate people do desperate things.

For some folks the idea of not having the absolute best is just intolerable. If they have to play dirty to get what they want, they'll do just that. Greed.

Would getting a full ride to a well regarded state school lead to a worse outcome? This whole college keeping up with the jones is crazy and what is the real benefit at the end of the day/

Going to an ivy affords a huge opportunity to kids not a guarantee. There are definitely many newly minted multimillionaires form each class and some billionaires too. So it allows kids to start the career on a great trajectory. Some people fall off along the way at various points. They may develop an addiction or get sick. They may also choose a non lucrative career or choose not to work. They may become regular employees or government workers. But walking out of ivy almost everyone has the opportunity to pick a fully loaded high socioeconomic path that is not available to other graduates. The ivy recent grads in this area have for the most part have rejected that path so looking at your local neighbors and saying they are regular most of them opted out to do something DC oriented as at he point of graduation. If you are choosing to go to the government or a job affiliated with the government the student has made a choice to not maximize earned income but something else
