Who else is excited for "Crazy Rich Asians" ?!?

I also thought the wedding was weird.

I also thought rachel’s Dress seemed too childish/Cinderella.

Having attended some Singaporean Chinese weddings that were much less lavish, I actually believe that wedding. Fwiw

I thought Nick's character was bland and lacked personality Constance was great as was the mom actress, of Nick. It just jumped too fast into the crazy part without making me care about Nick and Rachel's love. I had easier time liking the side characters than Nick.

I thought it was boring too and was really bummed because I wanted to love it. There were parts that were funny (mainly her friend's family and Nick's family) but the rest was just cheesy and boring--totally predictable. I thought it would be much funnier or innovative or something.
I went with a group of friends and we all felt this way. Just bummed that we didn't love it.

If anything, this movie accurately depicts that women are CRAZY. Nick's friends did trash-talk Rachel but they weren't batshit to the extent of the women. I could relate to the treatment received by Rachel and that's why this movie wasn't so unrealistic.

It was Asian Cinderella fluff and and I loved it - the glimpses of the ultra-wealthy in Singapore, the amazing, over-the-top sets, the blue Cinderella dress she wears to the wedding, the music, the stereotypical characters and shallow, cursory plot lines - it was better than I expected from the trailers I saw.

I agree. When she stepped into the water I just rolled my eyes. That was waaaaay too over-the-top.

I think it was meant to be ridiculously over-the-top.

THAT WAS THE POINT.

But Rachel isn't Eurasian. She was full Chinese.

Plus, Rachel's being ABC, but born in China is important to why Nick's mother and Ahma object to her. It becomes crucial to the plot in China Rich Girlfriend , as well.

The character Nick isn’t half-white either, but the actor is.

I thought it was really odd that they picked a half white actor to play the part of a full Chinese man

Not worth all the hype.

They had a hard time finding a fully-Asian leading man. They approached drama schools all over the West and were told such a guy wasn't in their radars. Chu learned of Golding through their accountant in KL. I think he suits the role because he does look manly, handsome and charismatic. If I had to pick another good-looking Asian male lead, I'd go with Daniel Henney but maybe he's too old for the part?

Finally saw the movie yesterday and I loved it. Just totally lost myself in it. Also Awkwafina - I LOVE her. I want to see her in everything.

My husband was completely bored. He said he wishes there were more jokes.

But one thing - which I also thought while reading the books, and just remembered yesterday:

It's pretty egregious for Nick not to have prepared Rachel at all for what she was getting herself into, right?

Also: Is it remotely possible that Rachel wouldn't have Googled Nick at some point, early in their relationship?
