I like you PP! I'm Asian American and love Bollywood and Nollywood films too! |
No, the mom considered Rachel to be American, not Chinese you doofus. |
I honestly think the mom was more picky than Queen E. |
As remarked by the crazy Americans who napalmed Vietnam and Cambodia, assassinated a couple million Japanese with nuclear and fire bombs, discriminated Chinese-Americans for two centuries, and ... |

Does anyone here want to talk about the movie?
I really liked it! I thought it was much better than the book! |
I loved the book and movie in different ways. The movie is an awesome romantic comedy with some depth. The book is fabulous satire and really digs deep into the world of the super-rich. |
| Good movie, saw it at the movie theater but it was hard to watch, there was a couple making out a few rows in front of me the entire movie! |
So Pretty Woman was not popular because people could not relate to Richard Gere's obscenely wealthy character. People did not like Sabrina because neither Humphrey Bogart (original) or Harrison Ford (remake) was at all relateable as characters. Nobody wanted to watch the Great Gatsby because Leonardo DiCarprio's character was unrelateable to most theater-goers. People don't watch Iron Man because Robert Downey Jr's character is completely unrelateable. Why would anyone want to see a completely unrelateable character like Leonardo DiCaprio in the Wolf of Wall Street? Dudley more was a completely unrelateable "Dud" in Arthur, so who wants to watch that? And what is more unrelateable than that of a European princess? Clearly no one wants to see Anne Hathaway in Princess Diaries or the sequel. Need I go on? Audiences have absolutely no problem relating to white wealthy characters. Just because some people cannot see past their own skin color does not mean that audiences will not be able to relate to wealthy Asians. The situations of love, family, in-laws and culture clash are universal enough for people to relate to regardless of the trappings. |
| I wanted to like it. But, found it boring, sorry. I am white, but love, love Korean and other Asian movies and tv shows. I thought Nick's character was bland and lacked personality Constance was great as was the mom actress, of Nick. It just jumped too fast into the crazy part without making me care about Nick and Rachel's love. I had easier time liking the side characters than Nick. |
| Asian here. Loved the movie! But am I the only one who finds the wedding service cheesy? |
| Olivia Munn and Chloe Bennett have Asian parents but don’t look Asian. How did that work out? |
I didn't get the walking on water part. I was like, her dress is gonna get wet now! |
Oh me too!!!! I absolutely loved the movie, but the wedding did seem too cheesy. Especially because the bride was portrayed as relatively down to earth and not super-crazy for most of the movie. I expected lavish and elegant, not walking on water! |
You didn't think the bride was crazy during the bachelorette weekend at the resort? I think that the scene at the airport and in the food halls were a different side of her. |
I thought she was just vapid and wondered if she knew what the other girls did to Rachel's bed. That was so awful. I also found it weird that Rachel was facing so much hate from the women before the wedding but everyone seemed to welcome her with smiles at the engagement party. I don't know, the whole 180-degree turn seemed very shallow. |
